Intro: This song is called “The Magnificat”
Wiersbe, W. W. (1996). The Bible exposition commentary (Vol. 1, p. 173). Wheaton, IL: Victor Books.
Luke 1:46-56 “And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: For, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; And holy is his name. And his mercy is on them that fear him From generation to generation. He hath shewed strength with his arm; He hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. He hath put down the mighty from their seats, And exalted them of low degree. He hath filled the hungry with good things; And the rich he hath sent empty away. He hath holpen his servant Israel, In remembrance of his mercy; As he spake to our fathers, To Abraham, and to his seed for ever. And Mary abode with her about three months, and returned to her own house.”
To better understand this
Psalm 137: 1-5 “By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, When we remembered Zion. We hanged our harps Upon the willows in the midst thereof. For there they that carried us away captive required of us a song; And they that wasted us required of us mirth, Saying, Sing us one of the songs of Zion. How shall we sing the Lord’s song In a strange land? If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, Let my right hand forget her cunning.”

Trans: The birth of a Song vs 46-49
I. A song is birthed from a transformed Heart
A. She was Overwhelmed - vs46-47
“soul” - magnified the Lord
she magnified = to increase honor ⇔ magnify v. — to cause something to be held in greater esteem (with oneself or others); conceived of as physically enlarging it.
In her heart God was greater than anything she ever imagined. HE had her attention, her focus, her devotion, her love and her obedience!!
WHY? because her heart was overwhelmed!!
Verse ref- Luke 1:46, 58; Acts 5:13; 10:46; 19:17
“spirit” - she rejoiced in God
my savior - the one who delivered her, freed her, rescued her.
ILL: According Invaluable.com “12 of the most valuble gifts ever given” Back in 2013, American boxer Mike Tyson bought his then-wife, actor Robin Givens, a 24-carat solid gold bathtub that was estimated to be worth over $2 million at the time. The item was gifted by Tyson to Givens as a birthday gift and was intended to be installed in their mansion in Ohio.
Performing artist power couple Beyonce and Jay-Z .......Topping their own list of lavish gifts is a Bombardier Challenger 85 jet, which was gifted to Jay-Z by Beyonce as a Father’s Day gift in 2012, shortly after the birth of their first child, Blue Ivy.
In-spite of these outrageous and extremely expensive gifts they do not satisfy.
Davids Heart - Psalm 27:4 (KJV 1900) 4  One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; That I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life,To behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in his temple.
Jesus - John 6:35 “And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.”
It is this transformation that caused Mary’s heart to be overwhelmed and burst forth with praise to say , I cannot help but magnify the Lord, I cannot help but rejoice in my savior!!!
II. a song is birthed where grace is given vs48-49
Grace is God giving what is undeserved to those who are undeserving.
a. God regarded - to notice ⇔ to look upon v. — to notice or acknowledge (and respond accordingly); conceived of as focusing one’s sight onto someone or something.
Paul to the Corinthians 1 Corinthians 1:26-28 1 Corinthians 1:26–28 (KJV 1900) 26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: 27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; 28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:
i.. Her position - low estate = she was humble and unimportant. concerning status (position) n. — the relative position or standing of things or especially persons in a society.
ii. The insignificant - Handmaiden = female slave
Peter quotes OT acts 2:18 and my servants and my hanfmaidens will I pour out my spirit in those days.
ILL: Have you been noticed?
Has God taken interest in you?
Has God taken interest in the condition of your soul?
Do you remember the first time you realized God sees you?
The first time you realized God cared about you.
The first time you realized your relationship with God was not o.k.?
Did you feel ashamed?
Did you feel guilt?
Did you feel forgiveness?
Dear friend, if you have never realized God is looking for you, God care about you then you are not converted.
Who do you think whispers to you that God is not real?
Who do you think whispers to you that you are not important?
Who do you think whispers to you that you are not loved?
It is a lie straight from the mouth of satan himself!
b. God blessed her - God showed favor to her
with heritage -generations shall call me blessed
ILL: A book from my dad, There is Greatness within you my son! It felt good to hear kind words of affirmation from my daddy. It warmed my heart to spend time with my dad and have good conversation with him! To be in his presence.
APP: The miserable condition we were in.
We, like Israel in captivity had lost our way.
We were in a strange and unforgiving land
We were chained down maybe from the past failures and sins.
Or chained down from the Satan’s guilt .
Or from the satan lie that there was no hope or no God!
We were poor
We were lost
We were not complete
Lacking in purpose and power
Wondering about in this cursed world without hope.
But then that blessed day .......when God the Holy Spirit, pricked us in the heart and found a foothold.....a lodging place....Maybe through a friend or family members kindness.... but her came along and whispered sweet, and grace filled revelations to our longing inner heart.
.......When we heard the whisper deep inside that he loved us. And HE sent his son for us.....
That he would forgive us if we would simply turn to Jesus and the cross and let go of the world!
Mary had a song because her heart had been transformed.
Mary had a song because Grace had been given.

Deborah Anne God will always Mend
I have lived a life of losses, with hardship as my friend . . . but I’ve come to understand how God will always mend.
For there is not a problem, too great for Him to take not a soul He can’t change regenerate or remake.
There isn’t a broken heart, Jesus cannot repair . . . not a soul He won’t save from the depth of despair.
For there is not a worry, which for Him is too small no trouble is too imposing for He came to bear them all.
So no matter what your loss, no matter where you’ve been let God repair and mend . . . the effects of pain and sin!
Mary had a song because her heart had been transformed.
Mary had a song because Grace had been given
Mary had a song because Jesus had been revealed and she believed his promise!!!
