Skit Guys - Emmanuel (4min)

Scripture: ( 1min)

700 Years before Jesus Came to earth the prophet Isaiah foretold the story of Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus. He said in The book of Isaiah chapter 7 ”Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and you shall call his name Immanuel.
And then 2 chapters later Isaiah prophesied again of the coming messiah. He said “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Song -

O Come O Come Emmanuel #218

Scripture:

700 years have now passed and Isaiahs Prophesy of a coming Messiah seems to be fading away with time.
But we are reminded In Galations 4 that God’s timing is always perfect- verse says ” But when the right time came, God fuflilled his promise and sentJesus his only son as the Messiah
In the book of Matthew chapter 1 We see this prophesy come to reality.
It says that “1:18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ happened this way. While his mother Mary was engaged to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit.
When Joseph, (Marry’s finacee’ )had contemplated this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, because the child conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.  She will give birth to a son and you will name him Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” 1:22 This all happened so that what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet (Isaiah) would be fulfilled: 1:23 Look! The virgin will conceive and bear a son, and they will call him Emmanuel,” which means “God with us.” 1:24 When Joseph awoke from sleep he did what the angel of the Lord told him. He took his wife, 1:25 but did not have marital relations with her until she gave birth to a son, whom he named Jesus.
The prophesy was fulfilled in Jesus.

Angels from the Realms of Glory #222

Scripture:

We continue our story in Luke Chapter 2:
“Now in those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus [who was the ruler of the roman empire] This decree demanded that everyone must go to their families home town to register to pay taxes. So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to the city of David called Bethlehem, because he was a descendant of King David.   Joseph did not make this 5 day journey alone. the Bible tells that He took with him his fiancee’ Mary- who was expecting a child. The child that was promised to mankind 700 years before through the prophet Isaiah.

SONG:

O Little Town of Bethlehem # 242

Scripture:

LUKE 2:6 While they were there in Bethlehem, the time came for her to deliver her child. 2:7 And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.
THE BIBLE IS SO CLEAR- THE PROMISED DELIVERER HAS COME, BUT HE HAS COME AS A LOWLY SERVANT- BORN IN A STABLE AND NOT A PALACE, BORN TO POOERS AND NOT A KING.
The Savior of the world has come to earth-born as a baby- born in a stable.

AWAY IN A MANGER #232
Silent Night #236

SCRIPTURE:

LUKE 2:8-14 “Now there were shepherds nearby living out in the field, keeping guard over their flock at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were absolutely terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid! Listen carefully, for I proclaim to you good news that brings great joy to all the people: Today your Savior is born in the city of David. He is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign for you: You will find a baby wrapped in strips of cloth and lying in a manger.”Suddenly a vast, heavenly army appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among people with whom he is pleased!”

Song:

THE FIRST NOEL #223

SCRIPTURE:

Luke 2:15-21 The story goes on to tells that ” When the angels left the shepherds and went back to heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has taken place, that the Lord has made known to us.”
Can you imagine being a shepherd. Living your life at the bottom of society, as a social outcast, and having God reveal his fulfillment of this 700 year old prophesy to you.
They didn’t just hear the message but they believed it.
2:16 So they hurried off to the stable and there they found Mary and Joseph and Baby Jesus lying in the manger. When they saw him they worshipped him. 2:20 After seeing Jesus the shepherds returned tot heir fields, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen; everything was just as they had been told.”
Jesus the Messiah has come to earth. Emmanuel - God is with us.
We no longer have to look for the prophecy of a coming messiah because He has already come.
We dont have to look too hard to see that this world is a dark place- It is a lonely place, it is a sorrowful place, it is a broken place filled with hurts disappointments and pain
The story of Christmas is that Jesus Christ- God Himself has come to earth to redeem mankind from our bondage of sin.
In John 8:12 “ Jesus Said I am the light of the World Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness any more but will have the light of Life.
Jesus came to be a light in the midst of our darkness.
Jesus the light of the world whoever believes will be taken from darkness and into the light.
The response of meeting Jesus- the messiah should be the same as the shepherds, as Joseph, as the wisemen, and as the many who chose to follow him.
The response of meeting Jesus should be to tell everyone what you have just experienced.
to proclaim the the good news to the the World.

Song: Go tell it on the mountain # 225

As we wrap up our time together - I want us to sing one more song together _ Silent night- as we sing we are going to make a circle around the auditorium and light our candles
As we sing this last song think about how the light of Jesus can be spread around the world through our church. We have hope that only comes through the story of Christmas. Let’s take time this holiday season to be the light of the world in our community and in our homes.
