Matthew 1:23 ESV
“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us).
DARKNESS OF CHRISTMAS
BUT WHY THIS DARKNESS?
TO SHOW THAT WHEN THE INFANT JESUS SHOWED UP, DARKNESS RISES UOP BECAUSE IT KNOWS ITS END IS NEAR
John 1:5 ESV
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
Luke 2:25 ESV
Now there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him.
Luke 2:26–27 ESV
And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. And he came in the Spirit into the temple, and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him according to the custom of the Law,
Luke 2:28–30 ESV
he took him up in his arms and blessed God and said, “Lord, now you are letting your servant depart in peace, according to your word; for my eyes have seen your salvation
Luke 2:31–32 ESV
that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to your people Israel.”

How is Christ our Warrior King?

1. He BECAME us

He condescended - shared glory with the Father and now shares humanity with us- with all of its limitations
Hebrews 2:14 ESV
Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil,
PHIL 2:6-7--
Philippians 2:6–7 ESV
who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.
In His flesh, He had to suffer physical pain, emotional rejection

2. He LIVED for us

Hebrews 4:15 ESV
For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.
Hebrews 5:7–8 ESV
In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to him who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence. Although he was a son, he learned obedience through what he suffered.
Took on our flesh but also experienced our existence but without sin

3. He DIED for us

Romans 8:3–4 (ESV)
For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
Colossians 2:13 ESV
And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses,
Colossians 2:14 ESV
by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.

4. He ROSE for us

5. He is EMPOWERING our FIGHT

Ephesians 6:10–11 ESV
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.
STRONG - ‘IN THE LORD’ (THAT IS WHERE OUR STRENGTH)
Philippians 3:10–11 (ESV)
that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead.
WE FIGHT, FROM A POSITION OF VICTORY BECAUSE PAUL TEACHES US
Romans 8:34 ESV
Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.
Romans 8:35 ESV
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?
Romans 8:36 ESV
As it is written, “For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”
Romans 8:37 (ESV)
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
NOTICE PAUL’S WORDS: “WE ARE”
NOT WE SHALL BE, SIMPLY IN THE FITURE TENSE,
BUT RIGHT NOW, ON THIS DAY, IN THE MIDST OF YOUR BATTLES, WRESTLINGS, FEARS, FAILURES, ANXIETIES
WE ARE - IN THE MIDST OF ALL OF THAT - MORE THAN CONQUERORS

6. He is PRAYING for us

Romans 8:34 ESV
Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.
Hebrews 7:25 ESV
Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.

7. He will COME for us

John 14:1–2 ESV
“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?
