How did Mary and Joseph know that Jesus was 7lbs, 4oz’s when he was born?
They had a weigh in a manger
Christmas is a very special time - becasue it reminds us that God loves us enough to send his son Jesus to be with us.
To live a perfect life that we could not before God.
And even though he was perfect - he was put to death on the cross - where God punished Jesus for all the wrong we have done - so that we might become children of God ourselevs!
Jesus was the most amazing gift we could ever receive.
So this morning - we’re going to open some gifts to remind us of God’s great love for us.
invite someone to open gift 1
Gift 1 - Galaxy - Jesus is God and Created the Universe
Gift 1 - Galaxy - Jesus is God and Created the Universe
Who knows what a galaxy is (other than a chocolate bar!)
Picture of galaxy
Dictionary def:
a system of millions or billions of stars, together with gas and dust, held together by gravitational attraction
Let’s see what that has to do with Christmas and Jesus:
In the beginning God created the sky and the earth.
God made the whole universe!
The sky hear means space and all the galaxies - he even made our earth and you and me.
The Galaxy Bar - reminds us that Jesus is God - and he made every galaxy.
Invite to gift 2
Gift 2 - Sours - People Sin Against Jesus
Gift 2 - Sours - People Sin Against Jesus
Some people quite like sour sweets - but they aren’t what we expect from sweets!
And we don’t respond to God as he expects us to.
This gift represent something sad - which is why there is nothing in the box!
As the Scriptures say: “There is no one without sin. None!
It’s sad - it’s surprising - it’s sour - when we don’t live perfectly for for God.
It’s called sin - and it means we can’t be friends with God - in fact the bible says we make ourselevs enemies.
But
invite gift 3
Gift 3 - Love Hearts - God Love’s the World
Gift 3 - Love Hearts - God Love’s the World
“For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son. God gave his Son so that whoever believes in him may not be lost, but have eternal life.
Despite us being sour - being sinful - rejecting God,
God still loves his creation - he love people.
And so he decided to send someone special - His son - to save us.
That’s what the love hearts represent.
Invite gift 4
Gift 4 - Jelly Baby - Jesus is Born
Gift 4 - Jelly Baby - Jesus is Born
Did you know Jelly babies used to be called ‘Peace Babies’.
Jesus came as a baby to make peace between us and God.
Matthew 1:21 (ICB:VCCRU)
Mary will give birth to a son. You will name the son Jesus. Give him that name because he will save his people from their sins.”
Jesus isn’t an ordinary baby.
He is God himself come down to be with us.
He’s the answer to our sin,
He’s the result fo God’s live for us.
But how do we know anything about Jesus?
Well gift 5 reminds us that God guides us to find Jesus.
ivite gift 5
Gift 5 - Starburst - God Leads Us to Jesus
Gift 5 - Starburst - God Leads Us to Jesus
They asked, “Where is the baby who was born to be the king of the Jews? We saw his star in the east. We came to worship him.”
The wise men were led to Jesus by a star,
the shepherds were told about Jesus by angels,
and even today God still leads us to Jesus becasue we can find out about him in the bible.
So the Starburst remind us that that God leads us to Jesus.
So - what’s the last gift do you think?
Invite someone for gift 6
Gift 6 - All Sorts - Jesus Came for All
Gift 6 - All Sorts - Jesus Came for All
Jesus didn’t just come for clever people, or good people, or black people, or white people. He didn’t just come for children or men, or women.
He came for all sorts of people.
really he came for All people!
So the All Sorts remind us that Jesus came for all.
And so as we enjoy and celebrate that we know Jesus - we should tell others as well.
So go and make followers of all people in the world. Baptize them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
All of you (well kids) will receive a gift bag with these 6 sweets in when you go home and the bible verse.
See if you can remember what they mean later on - and everything you enjoy a sweet in the future - you can think of Jesus,
who was born at Christmas to forgive us - and show us God’s love.
