Not Much Has Changed
For some reason, when the calendar rolls from December 31 to January 1, people expect everything to feel new.
It is as though the title New Year gives us the idea that life is going to change.
Many people attempt to make changes, they call them resolutions.
More often than not, we forget what resolutions we make by the end of the year.
Then the cycle repeats itself.
As I look back on 2021 we welcomed a new baby.
Before Davis came, I thought everything would change.
I assumed I would never sleep again.
I wondered if I would get used to having a third person in the home.
I questioned if we would ever have time to actually make a home cooked meal.
It took a few months of adjusting, but really, not much has changed.
I am still Daniel, Bekah is still Bekah.
Life is better with Davis, but we’re rolling on with life.
Truthfully, I look the same, weigh the same, and feel the same as last year.
I had an idea for 2022, instead of making a list of all the changes I hope to make in the New Year, I want to think about what has not changed.
What remains constant year to year, decade to decade, and century to century?
We know God does not change.
He still loves us and helps.
Our means of communicating with Him remains unaltered.
He still listens to the prayers and cries of His people.
His Word continues to stand.
His love for us remains steadfast.
His Spirit continues to provide power.
His promise to return will one day come to pass.
The more I think about it, not much has changed.
God still draws near to those who draw near to Him.
So this year, instead of making a list of all the changes I want to make.
I will hold to God’s unchanging hand, allowing Him to lead and guide me through whatever comes my way.
