*One of the beauties about the nativity story is that it was prophecy long long ago. Through Jeremiah and other minor prophet and major prophets. There are promises of a king who will rescue God’s people and set them free from captivity. Other verses say that there will be a lamb a pure lamb that will wash all our transgressions and all our iniquities. In the book of Micah, we read that this individual would be born in Bethlehem. However, Mary the mother of Jesus and Joseph were in Nazareth. In the scripture we read, we learn that Caesar Augustus ordered a census, census was normal they were known to see how much they could tax according to how many people there were.
The people needed to go to Bethlehem to do the census. Therefore, Joseph and Mary had to go even though Mary was pregnant with Jesus.
Mary and Joseph were probably tired and did not want to travel especially in the conditions that Mary was in. Though Caesar had his own gods, Our God used him for the prophecy to come true. Jesus was born in Bethlehem. The point that I am trying to highlight in this version of the nativity story is What God says he will do whether in a prophesy or in a promise it will happen. Jesus is Emmanuel God with us, that is who HE is. Just like we read in the Moses story “I am the I am” Jesus IS God with us…. we are celebrating this wonderful moment.
