Introduction

I was the recipient of some terrible news this past week. I heard that an ex-coworker of mine died recently. Hearing that news was bad but then it quickly got worse. When I asked how he died i was told that he ended his life. I didn’t even want to know how he did it. After that, it really didn’t matter. Far too often people go through things without most of the people they associate with knowing the reality of their feelings, emotions, and concerns. That was the case here. Unless someone either tells you or God has given you discernment, you never know what people are going through.
And every time I hear of someone dying my mind goes not to the family first but to their soul. While it’s not my responsibility to make sure people have a relationship with Jesus, I can’t help but wonder. If scripture is right, and we believe it is, eternal life without God is a place that I wouldn’t want my worst enemy to go. A day after hearing this a song came to me called Nothing Else Matters, written by Israel and I believe his wife. I want to read the lyrics to the song:
So many pressures in life So many reasons to throw in the towel When I feel like I'm losing this fight Consolation from Heaven comes clearly to me To remind me, to remind me
Nothing else matters than seeing You, Jesus Seeking the Master, the one who reigns over my life Nothing else matters than seeing You, Jesus Just to sit at Your feet, hear Your voice clearly speak Lifts me out of defeat, for in You I'm complete Reminds me nothing else, nothing else matters
You've got so many rivers to cross So many mountains discouraging you Just don't focus on yesterday's loss, no Consolation from Heaven comes clearly to you To remind you, to remind you
Nothing else than seeing You, Jesus Seeking the Master, you're the one who reigns over my life Nothing else matters than seeing You, Jesus Just to sit at Your feet, hear Your voice clearly speak Lifts me out of defeat, for in You I'm complete Just remind me that nothing else, nothing else matters
Saints we have to start living like nothing else matters. And that’s the title for today, Living like nothing else matters.

Message

What do I mean by living like nothing else matters? I mean walking out our faith in Jesus in such a way that nothing has more significance in our life. Not that nothing else is important or needs to get done. That nothing has more significance. This life, while extremely important, is an unnoticeable blip on the timeline when compared to eternity, so shouldn’t there be a focus on eternal things?
Paul tells us in Romans 12:1-2 that:

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Jesus tells His disciples in Matthew 5:14-16 that:

14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

God has ordained the church to be the light of the world. Our lives should prove the the good, acceptable, and perfect will of God. And our good works should be seen and cause others to glorify God in Heaven. The question we should be asking ourselves today is:
What are my good works that would cause others to glorify God in heaven?
How am I proving the good, acceptable and perfect will of God?
When you look at these two scriptures it is clear that works are important, not unto salvation but to allow others to see the truth of Gods word. For them to see and experience heaven through you. I think sometimes we believe that we are a light through knowledge transfer. Like just because we speak God’s word people should glorify God or that His will should be proven. That’s not the case. It’s through our actions. This is why the fruit of the spirit is so important. Jesus said in John 15 that we can only bear fruit if we abide in Him, and that we can do nothing without Him.
I spoke with an Atheist associate recently who shared, from his perspective, how christians hide behind their faith. In his mind christians act in a way that’s contrary to their own belief yet claim protections, holiness, and righteousness because of their faith. In other words claiming the benefits of the faith without living up to its standards.
How are we proving the world (Love, Joy, Peace):
Jesus says to love others regardless of how they treat us. Are we proving that? (Mat 5:43)
Paul is in Prison and encouraging the believers to rejoice. Are we proving that? (Phil 4:4)
Jesus says that He doesn’t give us peace like the world. Are we proving that? (John 14:27; Is 26:3; Phil 4:6-7)

Closing

In closing, the most significant thing that we can do for this world is to be the light that God ordained the church to be, not just in word but also in deed. And not just any kind of light but one that proves His good, acceptable, and perfect will and causes others to glorify God in heaven. Then maybe people can receive the hope that they need because they see Gods word and will manifest in our lives. If we can live more like nothing else matters, God can really show Himself in and through us.
