You See Me Now

Acts 2:14 ESV
But Peter, standing with the eleven, lifted up his voice and addressed them: “Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and give ear to my words.
Peter was about to preach one of the greatest sermons…
A sermon that was going to penetrate the hearts of men…
Peter was standing with boldness and strength...
He was full of faith and the Holy Spirit...
We see him standing in Acts 2
It’s interesting that we had communion today but during the Last super with Jesus
There is a interesting conversation between Peter and Jesus
It was the last super
Satan had just entered into Judas
They into a room to have passover
Jesus tells them that the hand of the person who is going to betray me is on the table...
Then a dispute breaks about who is the greatest in the Kingdom...
Then Jesus turns to Peter and tells him…
Luke 22:31 ESV
“Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you, that he might sift you like wheat,
“Simon, Simon”
Calling him Simon instead of Peter was appropriate in this situation since the name ‘Peter’ describes the rock-like nature of the apostle...
Behold - Listen to me
Satan demanded to have you....
Demanded: to demand something and obtain an affirmative response.
Sift as wheat is a metaphor that could also be expressed as “shake someone apart” or “break a person down.”
In biblical times, wheat or other grain was sifted through a large strainer
As it was shaken violently, the dirt and other impurities that clung to the grain during the threshing process would separate from the good, usable grain.
Satan desired to shake Peters faith....
(Example)
2020 & 2021
Almost 2 years......
Satan has tried to shake our faith…
But just for the record…
Everything is not Satan’s fault.....
Let’s be honest....
Our decisions can cause a shaking…
There is a difference between trials and temptations
Satan is an expert at sending fiery darts our way.
Situations that our outside of our control will come...
2020 & 2021 has proven it
With our families
Loss of loved ones
Financial struggles
Health challenges
People acting crazy (People we know)
The uncertainty of what’s next…
Satan has tried and for some Has been successful in shaking our faith!
I’ve experienced somethings in the last two years.....
Where I threw in the towel....
But being knocked down doesn’t mean being knocked out!
Luke 22:32 ESV
but I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned again, strengthen your brothers.”
But I have prayed for you…
John 17:11–12 ESV
And I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them in your name, which you have given me, that they may be one, even as we are one. While I was with them, I kept them in your name, which you have given me. I have guarded them, and not one of them has been lost except the son of destruction, that the Scripture might be fulfilled.
John 17:13–15 ESV
But now I am coming to you, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have my joy fulfilled in themselves. I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one.
Fail: to disappoint, prove undependable to; to have a state or process cease.
Peter denied Christ.... Three times!
His faith was faulty.... - Faulty: having or displaying weaknesses
But It didn’t fail
Why... because Jesus prayed
Jesus declared it so the devil could hear it!
Remember Judas was at the table.... In Luke 22:3 Satan had just entered into Judas....
“When you have turned again” - When you come to yourself - When you repent
“Strengthen your brothers”
Acts 2 is Peter’s moment to fulfill what Jesus prayed for!
You See me now!
The Last Sunday of the Year
I’m Standing…
John 17:20–21 ESV
“I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me.
Jesus prayed - Past tense
I had to come to myself
I had to repent
I had to remind myself
Keep believing
Keep trusting
Stay in the seat
Not only did He pray but He sealed me
Ephesians 1:13 ESV
In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit,
Now He’s sending me to Strengthen my brothers!
