7 Grinch Take-aways

The Grinch is a fictional character, but he makes some observations that are very real.

# 1 - Like the Grinch our lives often get broken and battered and we resist God.

Isaiah 61:1 NIV
The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners,

#2 - Without a change in our hearts Christian love, community, and worship are not understood.

1 Corinthians 2:14 NIV
The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.

#3 - Your Community is Watching You

The Grinch watched the actions of the Who’s and when they didn’t line up with goodness, he called them out on it. Don’t fool yourself into believing that people are not watching your lives. Your life speaks volumes.
1 Peter 2:12 NIV
Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.

#4 - Love Breaks Down Barriers

The Grinch responded to the kindness that the girls demonstrated in their prayer.
John 13:34–35 NIV
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

#5 - God Can Handle our Questions

Job, Moses, David, Elijah, and Mary are all biblical examples of people who have asked Jesus hard life questions. Never be afraid to ask God about the things that are on your heart.

#6 - Christmas Lives Because Christ Lives

The Grinch was astonished that the Who’s didn’t despair when they found that they had been robbed. Although the gifts, food, and traditions are sweet, Christmas is not stopped when they aren’t present.
On Christmas Eve we celebrated the unquenchable light of Christ.
John 1:1–5 NIV
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

#7 - Our Hearts Can ‘Grow’ Just like the Grinch’s

The Grinch’s heart grew…God makes our spirits live and gives us gifts of the Spirit and eternal life!
2 Corinthians 4:6–7 NIV
For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ. But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.
Galatians 2:20 NIV
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Maybe you would’ve found out today the same things that the Grinch learned. Christ is real. His Spirit is for you. If you have never accepted Jesus Christ as your personal savior, or maybe you have in the past but would like to rededicate your life to Him:
A – Admit that you are a sinner in need of a Savior
B – Believe that Jesus is the Son of God, came in the form of a man, was crucified, buried, and rose from the dead. He is the Savior
C – Choose to accept His gift of forgiveness.
