Introduction

Acts 11:19–26 KJV 1900
19 Now they which were scattered abroad upon the persecution that arose about Stephen travelled as far as Phenice, and Cyprus, and Antioch, preaching the word to none but unto the Jews only. 20 And some of them were men of Cyprus and Cyrene, which, when they were come to Antioch, spake unto the Grecians, preaching the Lord Jesus. 21 And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord. 22 Then tidings of these things came unto the ears of the church which was in Jerusalem: and they sent forth Barnabas, that he should go as far as Antioch. 23 Who, when he came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord. 24 For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost and of faith: and much people was added unto the Lord. 25 Then departed Barnabas to Tarsus, for to seek Saul: 26 And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.

Body

Expound on Scripture Text
What is a “Christian”?
Christians are all in
There are no “nominal Christians”
Christians are completely committed
Difference between coming to church and being in church
Christians are spiritual in nature, and eternal in scope
They’re solutions are arrived at spiritually, not naturally
They think in terms of eternity, not the temporal
We have all the resources of heaven at our disposal
Christians are bound only by God’s law and God’s character
They are free to disregard injury, slight, insult.
They are free to shrug off bitterness, anger, envy, guilt.
They are free to experience joy and peace in impossible situations
Whatever God has called us to do, He equips us and qualifies us to accomplish it. We don’t have to worry about it!
This is someone God believes we can be!
He keeps working with us, in us, to perfect us.
He is very patient and longsuffering while working with us
He will never leave you or forsake you
He loves you!!

Conclusion

Be encouraged this morning:
God expects a lot from His people
But God believes you can attain to His ideal for you
God thinks of you as a son, or as a daughter that He loves
He’s not frustrated or disappointed in you if you’re not there yet
He won’t give up on you, even if you have
He won’t break covenant with you. Not ever
Keep your eyes fixed on Him. Keep walking toward Him. Allow Him to work in you His perfect will.
