Other Miraculous Births
Understanding that the birth of Jesus Christ was indeed miraculous, as well as the birth of John the Baptist whose parents were 99 & 88, what are some other miraculous births in the Bible?
Luke 1:7 And they had no child, because that Elisabeth was barren, and they both were now well stricken in years. The Bible say God hear their prayer
Psalms 113:9 He maketh the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the LORD.
· Genesis 18:10-14 Open Bibles and read. Indeed, is anything too hard for the LORD?
o Note, Abraham was 75 when God made the promise. He was 100 when God delivered on it.
o Don’t give up on GOD, after all, He hasn’t given up on you.
· Genesis 25:21 And Isaac intreated the LORD for his wife, because she was barren: and the LORD was intreated of him, and Rebekah his wife conceived.
o Isaac intreated, that is he prayed on behalf of his wife
o Are you currently intreating God on anyone’s behalf?
· Jacob’s wife Rachel was barren but would eventually bear two sons.
o Genesis 30:22 And God remembered Rachel, and God hearkened to her, and opened her womb. Hearken means to hear so, we understand that Rachel had also prayed, and God heard and answered her.
o Leah was also barren for a time after having already had 4 sons.
§ Genesis 29:31 And when the LORD saw that Leah was hated, he opened her womb: but Rachel was barren.
o I’ll be honest, I feel barren. Perhaps that is an indictment against my prayers.
· Judges 13:2-3 And there was a certain man of Zorah, of the family of the Danites, whose name was Manoah; and his wife was barren, and bare not. And the angel of the LORD appeared unto the woman, and said unto her, Behold now, thou art barren, and bearest not: but thou shalt conceive, and bear a son. (The mother of Samson)
o God had a plan for Zorah as well as a plan for her son’s life.
· 1 Samuel 1:20 Wherefore it came to pass, when the time was come about after Hannah had conceived, that she bare a son, and called his name Samuel, saying, Because I have asked him of the LORD. Hannah was barren but she prayed, and the Lord answered her prayer.
o If we don’t have an active, earnest prayer life then perhaps it’s due to a lack of faith in God.
· READ 2 Kings 4:14-17 – Elisha asked God to reward the Shunamite woman for her taking care of him/them.
o I say he asked God because he could not have caused her to have a child himself.
Now we may not all consider these to be miraculous birth but, I suspect the barren women did and all gave God glory. In fact, glory should be given unto God for the birth of all children. Amen?
From the baren womb God called forth life – even as from barren grave God calls forth life.
My point tonight is this, God is still in the miracle business. HE still hears our prayers, and He still answers our prayers. If you need a miracle, pray for a miracle and then expect a miracle.
Jesus said, “Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. Mark 11:24.
