To finish our short series on some of the Old Testament promises of the coming of Jesus, we're going right back to the beginning, to the Garden of Eden and the creation of the world. In Genesis 3, we see the greatest tragedy of all time: humans being deceived into rebellion against God, into sin. Ever since that time, we have been cursed with death as the punishment for our rebellion, "for dust we are, and to dust we will return." Yet even in the midst of this tragedy, God is faithful, merciful and loving towards us, because he promises a way out, a solution to the disaster that we have caused. One day, he says, he will give a woman an offspring that will crush the serpent, Satan, who deceived us, and with it, he will rescue us from the death that has been brought about by our sin, to return us to eternal life with him, as it was when the world was created - and that offspring is none other than Jesus.
