I. Called to righteous.

For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

Pharisees followed a system of righteousness in terms of legal regulations.

Jesus confronts them with 7 woes or warnings. Moses seat was their teaching authority- chair position

II. Jesus’ method of service.

A. All religious observance s/b directed toward God and not to gain the approval of men.

Ethical Obedience code of conduct: Do not show off one’s religious devotion.
