Blessed is the man
That walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly,
Nor standeth in the way of sinners,
Nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
But his delight is in the law of the Lord;
And in his law doth he meditate day and night.
And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water,
That bringeth forth his fruit in his season;
His leaf also shall not wither;
And whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
I- What the blessed man does not do
He does not walk contrary to God’s Word
There is only one source of truth…the Bible
Therefore the blessed one walk in the wisdom and precepts of God’s Word
II- What the blessed man does
Delights in God’s Word
Hears, searches, hides
Meditates for action
Hears, reads, studies, memorizes to know and DO
This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
His steps are planned
Luke 15. The Prodigal son towards the end.
In the beginning he had no plan other than to have fun
At the end he makes a plan
He thinks through where he will go and why
Who he will go to and why
What he will say and why
The blessed man walks in the Word
Psalm 119:9, 11.
Romans 8:28-29.
Philippians 2:15.
The key to this Psalm, these first verses, is control
Living a well ordered life that is directed by the Word of God
This Psalm shows us a simple two step process
1- We must be separated from the world
The “world” is anything that seperated us from God or causes us to disobey him
At the same time we need to remember that separation is not isolation
Be in the world but not of the world
Also, sin that becomes habitual is often a slow process
Notice the progression in this verse
From walking, to standing, to sitting
Becoming like the world is progressive; it happens gradually over time
We make friends with the world and become spotted by the world
We start to love the world and then become conformed to it
The final outcome is condemnation
Lot was an example of this
2- We must be saturated by the Word
