John 11:9-10

The message today stems from the Christmas season, as well as our Wed. Night Bible Study in the Gospel of John. Particularly, the 11th chapter. Jesus said something in verses 9-10, that must not be passed over and dealt with.............. John 11:9-10 “Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world. But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him.”
Before Jesus said this to the disciples they were concerned about Jesus returning to Jerusalem, because the religious leaders sought to kill Him and have tried, unsuccessfully on multiple occasions. Jesus uses the analogy of daylight and darkness to convey to His disciples that He is the reality and purpose of God’s will.
While Jesus is here we follow Jesus and His purposes and no danger will stop them, until it is completed.
This started my thoughts into the importance of Jesus’ coming to this earth as flesh.....
He is the only Light in this world! Following after anything or anyone else, is walking in darkness! Jesus has enlightened us and also exposed us, as well! John 8:12 “Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”
The dangers that cause me to stumble while I am in the dark, are not any danger at all during the day or when the Light exposes them!
John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”
Jesus came into this world to reveal to us the True Glory of God and to expose the world. John 7:7 “The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil.
The world is not inanimate objects, it is the hearts of humanity! Jesus in His glorious Light exposes the thoughts and intents of the heart!
Ephesians 4:18 “This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:”
This is a powerful understanding that exposes all of the darkness in our own hearts!! When I say that to you, some might say that is accusatory. In a way, I reckon it is, but it is only exposed by the True Light that has come and lived amongst humanity!
Jeremiah 17:9 “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately (incurably) wicked: who can know it?”
These are evidences that should cause us to pause our lives and take notice of what or who opposes are own way! Jesus is a stumbling block to those who want to continue on their own way, He is that because He testifies that our way is the wrong way!
When Jesus came to live as a human, He revealed, by His life, that the way of man is ignorant and wicked! Incurable! He was and is the only way!
The birth of Jesus Christ is greater than God living with us, it is God exposing that our way is wrong! The Jews had all of this, but did not get the true understanding of following God! The sought out their salvation by how they lived. When they sinned they had things they had to do, rather than be moved into sorrow because they have offended their God, and that being the reason for their sacrifices! Jesus came and exposed the frailty of man, as well as our darkened hearts. (Darkened to the truth)
Sin is real and not to be excused! Sin has been forgiven if we believe in Jesus Christ, but it is still an offense to God and it must be treated as such!
Living in sin, is living in darkness and their is no light at all! You might ask, well don’t we all sin, yes! There is a difference in living willfully in sin and being a repentant sinner.
I read this quote this past week: “Repentance is not just a one time thing, it’s a lifelong battle against the sin that still remains in us.”
Jesus is this Glorious Light and has exposed that every part of the human condition has fallen and that it needs redeeming!
This expose` leads us to decision of wanting to be with God or not. If we desire to be with God then we start continually not trusting in ourselves and trusting the way of Jesus!
We stay in the place of not trusting ourselves! This has everything to do with what Jesus said Luke 9:23 “And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.” We deny the darkness and follow the light!
This sparked by what Paul says in 2 Corinthians 7:10 “For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.”
Because of Christ we recognize our fallen condition and we long to be back right with God, through that sorrow we turn to Jesus Christ which leads us to salvation!
The reality of life is Jesus Christ.......
When He says He is the Light of the World, He has shone the Glory of God to the world in human form! I say this a lot, so many people look for their purpose in this world, but Jesus has revealed our purpose......to follow Him!
There is no other real purpose!!! Going back to our text, while it is daytime (LIGHT) your purpose will be fulfilled, you will complete your purpose!
Satan’s only purpose, is to hide this Glorious Light and keep the human in darkness.................................. 2 Corinthians 4:3-6...........................
Light, Light, Light, the Lord is telling us something...............
we must deny any thoughts that pull us to this world and follow Jesus.....
God has commanded the Light to shine in darkness, to those who believe in the Light of Jesus Christ it gives us the knowledge of the Glory of God in face of Who????? Jesus Christ!!
Jesus is the way out of darkness and He is the way to stay out of darkness! Do you get it?????
Let us stay out and continue in the daytime, the time will come when our walk is over, but while we have breath let us walk in this Glorious Light of Jesus Christ! We can see and will not stumble of the snares of life!
Lastly, ease over to Hebrews 1:1-4.............
God, Who had spoken through the prophets before, has now spoken to us in His Son. Jesus, Who is the heir of all things and the One Who made all things......
Jesus is the radiance of the Glory of God and the exact representation of God! Jesus Christ directs all things toward the completion of all things according the purpose of God.......
Jesus in all His Glory died to purge us from our sins, to cleanse us, to purify us before God! He is now has taken His rightful place at the Right Hand of the Father God.
This has given us a powerful truth that Jesus is not a martyr, He is a Victorious Savior and has taken His place on the throne!
This is told to us, because there is no need to look anywhere else!!! Please do not just see a baby in a manger, please see Jesus the Son of God and the radiant light that He has shone across humanity, a light the reveals the actual darkness in this world, the darkness is our own hearts!
Jesus reveals the only way of salvation, the only way back to God, which is through His life, death, and Resurrection! He is the ONLY WAY!!! The only true way to follow Him is to believe that everything that is man’s thought, desire, way, is darkness, denying those and follow this Glorious Light, Jesus the Christ the Son of the Living God!
Isaiah 9:2 “The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: They that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.”
Isaiah 60:1-2 “Arise, shine; for thy light is come, And the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee. For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, And gross darkness the people: But the Lord shall arise upon thee, And his glory shall be seen upon thee.”
