I want to talk about this acronym as we embark on this new year.

I want you to ask yourself the question “where is my hope actually found?”

Ephesians 2:1–9 NKJV

And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others. But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.

What do you think the reason is that so many people put their hope in the world?

before Christ you were living as the world. Unfortunately, many people haven’t made the decision to follow Christ with their lives.

For those who haven’t made that decision their hope is found in the things of the world because they are found in the world

Ephesians 2:2 NKJV

in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience,

When Paul was talking to the Christians here he was saying that all of us have once walked in the world,

therefor we have once been disobedient children who found their hope in the world.

Do you think we can be satisfied in the worlds hope? WHy or why not?

So all of us once live in the lust of the earth and in all of the bad those of us who have made the decision to follow Jesus Christ realized that it could never satisfy us.

The earth can never fill the void that we are looking to fill

That is why

So we have talked about identity a lot since I have been here and our identity in Christ

We will never find satisfaction in this world if our identity is in our friends

Friends

we should be leaders to our friends.

We are not called to be followers of our friends.

Our friends should toward us and know something is different.

They should see us praying over our food, not given away to foul language, not losing our cool.

Our friends should see Jesus Christ in us.

They should be changed not by us, but by the hope that lives within us.

do you always show your friends Jesus Christ?

What are you going to do in the future to show Jesus Christ through your life?

Attitude

How do you feel our attitude can affect where we find identity?

What if I told you that your attitude is shaped by what you are around?

My mom has a friend from high School

Every single time she is with that friend she begins to talk like her.

The way we act, live and especially our attitudes are very much shaped by what we are around.

Our atiitude becomes our identity because we want others to like it

We want others to see something special in it

Looks

Looks is a big one for many of us

If we do not look a certain way we are disliked or not accepted

therefor we carry our identity in our looks.

What is special about the way God made us?

Genesis 1:27 NKJV

So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

if we are created in the image of the most high king we shouldn’t be looking for our identity in what others think about our looks

Because God has created us perfectly in his image

Skills

Have you ever felt like you just couldn’t do anything right?

There have been times in my life I may have felt as though I had no skills at all

1 Corinthians 12:4–6 KJV 1900

Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.

We can be thankful because God has given us gifts and abilities to carry out his plans

Experience

You guys have probably already experienced a lot in your short time on this earth

As time goes on you will try new things

some for the curiosity of finding out what its like, some just for the sake of trying it

There may be some things you regret experiencing but some things you thankful that you did.

When all is said and done you experiences can also be something you allow to define you

If I went skydiving, swimming with sharks and hang gliding all at some point this year what would I be labeled.

I would be labeled an adrenaline jun key.

That would be allowing my experiences to define me
