Hear my Plea, Psalm 119:169, 170

169 Let my cry come before you, O Lord; give me understanding according to your word!

Psalm 119:170 ESV

170 Let my plea come before you; deliver me according to your word.

A. Prayers—“O Lord, listen to my prayers” (LB). This could mean, “Pay attention to my prayers.”

B. Promise—“Give me the common sense you promised” (LB). We should all pray, “Lord, give me wisdom.” If we need wisdom, we should ask God—James 1:5.

C. Protection—v. 170. “Hear my prayers; rescue me as you said you would” (LB).

Hear my Praise, Psalm 119:171, 172

Psalm 119:171 ESV

171 My lips will pour forth praise, for you teach me your statutes.

Psalm 119:172 ESV

172 My tongue will sing of your word, for all your commandments are right.

A. Reason for praise. We should show thanks and appreciation to God for all His kindness.

B. Results of praise. Changes the whole outlook on life. If sad and lonely, begin to praise, and life will take on new meaning.

C. Joy of praise

Lord, act – (173-176)

Action – Protection, Psalm 119:173, 174

Psalm 119:173 ESV

173 Let your hand be ready to help me, for I have chosen your precepts.

Psalm 119:174 ESV

174 I long for your salvation, O Lord, and your law is my delight.

A. Help—v. 173. The Psalmist asks the Lord to help him. As you read through the Bible, you’ll find man crying upon God for help. Man realizes that only God has the answer to many problems, so after he has tried everything else, he cries out to God for help.

B. Hope—v. 174. He had hope in God’s laws, hope in God’s deliverance and salvation. Salvation is only in Christ—John 14:6.

Action – Promise, Psalm 119:175

Psalm 119:175 ESV

175 Let my soul live and praise you, and let your rules help me.

A. Posterity—“Let my soul live.” All want life. All want to enjoy life. By living long, we can accomplish more for God. We can leave examples for others to follow.

B. Praise—“And it shall praise thee.” A good example left for man to follow is worth more than words! A long life filled with good deeds will be more important to your children than money.

C. Protection—“And let thy judgments help me.” In other words, “Let Thy judgments (laws) protect me.”

Action – Problem, Psalm 119:176

Psalm 119:176 ESV

176 I have gone astray like a lost sheep; seek your servant, for I do not forget your commandments.

A. Backslidden. Gone astray like lost sheep. Compare with Isa. 53:5. Man is lost in sin—Rom. 3:23. He needs God’s help.

B. Benefits. “Come and find me for I have not turned away from your commandments” (LB). What a blessing to know that God cares for those who remember Him.
