2 Peter 3:3–4 NKJV
3 knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, 4 and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.”
2 Peter 3:8–9 NKJV
8 But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.
Another Year of God
Every day is God’s day of forbearance and longsuffering..
The Bible teaches that Jesus is coming soon..
THE RETURN OF JESUS IS IMMINENT
“This is just another year.”
There is a separation when it comes to Jesus’ imminent return.
a. The Redeemed Bride of Christ
b. The Unredeemed World
To these two groups the return of Christ means two different things:
salvation, wedding
Destruction, wrath
Profound Truth:
While the Bridegroom the Lord Jesus yearns to claim His Bride at His coming,
God the Father delays the coming for the rest of the world.
The Father knows the exact day and the hour,,, and by His divine orchestration and purpose..
As the Coming of the Lord draws near:
Scoffers will rise.
God will keep His promise through eternity.
3. Every day is a day of God’s Salvation.
As the Coming of the Lord draws near:
Scoffers will rise.
2 Peter 3:3 NKJV
3 knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts,
The Great Delusion..
James Webb Space Telescope - 10 Billion dollars
(not against Science)
It will gather information — but no information it will gather will disprove God.
While they try to discover the origins of the universe, we already know..
In the Beginning, God… culminates with “Surely I am coming quickly.”
Practical scoffers - even Christians can be this.
2 Peter 3:4 NKJV
4 and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.”
Christians may not be saying this but they are living the attitude of these scoffers.
2. God will Keep His Promise through eternity.
“But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness” (2 Peter 3:8-9a)
God’s decrees are irreversible..
Isaiah 43:13 NKJV
13 Indeed before the day was, I am He; And there is no one who can deliver out of My hand; I work, and who will reverse it?”
All the promises of God are reliable and faithful:
2 Corinthians 1:20 NKJV
20 For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.
Scoffers not only question the reliability of God but they claim that God is slow in His promises:
Habakkuk 2:3 NKJV
3 For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, It will not tarry.
God’s timing is perfect!
Psalm 27:14 NKJV
14 Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord!
Verses here:
3. Every day is a day of God’s Salvation.
2 Peter 3:9 NKJV
9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.
Every day is an opportunity for God’s salvation to take place..
Every year for that matter.
1 Timothy 2:4 NKJV
4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
It is God’s will that all men will be saved
Beware of UNIVERSALISM! (explain)
It is God’s desire that all men will be saved and that no one should perish but that all should come to repentance --- that is the heart of God… but what saddens the heart of God and is that not everyone will take up His offer of salvation.
“Broad is the way that leads to destruction.”
When I say that every day is a day of God’s salvation, I mean that every day is an opportunity to give your life to God.
I have three verses...
2 Corinthians 6:1–2 NKJV
1 We then, as workers together with Him also plead with you not to receive the grace of God in vain. 2 For He says: In an acceptable time I have heard you, And in the day of salvation I have helped you. Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.
Don’t wait any longer… if you are unsure, receive the Lord Jesus today..
But if you have already received God’s grace — from this verse, the hope is that you have not received the grace of God in vain -- take every opportunity to share the love of Jesus.
Hebrews 3:13–15 NKJV
13 but exhort one another daily, while it is called “Today,” lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. 14 For we have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end, 15 while it is said: “Today, if you will hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.”
