Samuel took a vial of oil and poured it on his head, and kissed him; he said, “The Lord has anointed you ruler over his people Israel. You shall reign over the people of the Lord and you will save them from the hand of their enemies all around. Now this shall be the sign to you that the Lord has anointed you ruler over his heritage:
When you depart from me today you will meet two men by Rachel’s tomb in the territory of Benjamin at Zelzah; they will say to you, ‘The donkeys that you went to seek are found, and now your father has stopped worrying about them and is worrying about you, saying: What shall I do about my son?’
Then you shall go on from there further and come to the oak of Tabor; three men going up to God at Bethel will meet you there, one carrying three kids, another carrying three loaves of bread, and another carrying a skin of wine.
They will greet you and give you two loaves of bread, which you shall accept from them.
After that you shall come to Gibeath-elohim, at the place where the Philistine garrison is; there, as you come to the town, you will meet a band of prophets coming down from the shrine with harp, tambourine, flute, and lyre playing in front of them; they will be in a prophetic frenzy.
Then the spirit of the Lord will possess you, and you will be in a prophetic frenzy along with them and be turned into a different person.
Now when these signs meet you, do whatever you see fit to do, for God is with you.
And you shall go down to Gilgal ahead of me; then I will come down to you to present burnt offerings and offer sacrifices of well-being. Seven days you shall wait, until I come to you and show you what you shall do.”
As he turned away to leave Samuel, God gave him another heart; and all these signs were fulfilled that day.
Intro:
Freedom.......
I want to pick up where we left off on our NYE message where we shared with you we have to.....
“Do whatever it takes”
(Expound)
And today I want us to consider the “Doing” when we talk about.....
......doing whatever it takes
(pause)
Because we are not suggesting that we shoud just be “Doing” for the sake of doing......
But “Doing” with a mindset that is focused towards an outcome that EFFECTIVE.....
(pause)
This is not the year for you to live your life......
“DOING something that is absent of intentionality”
(pause)
And I believe the greatest source of INTENTIONALITY
....is connected to what God has anointed us to produce”
(pause)
Let me see if I can say it another way.....
If we were to ask Lebron James to be a chef.........at the finest restauraunt in Atlanta
He might be able to fix an extraordinary dish or two....
(pause)
But what we would be missing.......
Is the GREATNESS that we have witnessed him accomplish on the court and in the community.
(pause)
And I just believe sometimes.......
We never see GREATNESS come from our hands
....because we never do on a level that is intentionally connected to our God given purpose!
Note: Optional Expound on the determination to Do great things with our life for God....
(pause and optional expound)
Look at it now....
The text says.....
“The Lord has anointed you ruler over his heritage!”
Anointed (Hb)
- Saved or preserved, or to draw out
Heritage (Hb)
- Posession or property
And so....
When we read the Prophet Samuel’s words what he is telling Saul is that...
“God has saved you....
......or preserved you
....to be a leader of God’s property or posession.”
(pause)
And the reason why this is significant is because.....
....anytime God draws you out of something in order to take care of God’s posessions
.....that says you have incredible value to God!
(pause)
And Freedom....
every single one of us has been drawn out by God to be leader of God’s posession.
(pause)
And for those of you who don’t quite see this let me show you.....
Because......
First of all...
You’re still here!
.......and that means in and of itself that God is preserving you to do something that God needs you to do.
(pause and expound)
And then after that.......
Look around your life and examine if there’s anything God cares about that is connected to you.
.......now i’m not talking about that material stuff that we find significant
.....but I’m talking about those things that have life and give life!
.....because all of that stuff belongs to God...
....and the fact that God has trusted you to steward or watch over and guide it says,
…God sees purpose in your life!
(pause)
Now watch this......
.....because the prophet Samuel goes on to explain to Saul what’s getting ready to happen to him as it relates to his anointing....
(slight pause)
And the reason he is sharing this with him is because these are signs of confirmation related to his anointing
Summarize or read......
When you depart from me today you will meet two men by Rachel’s tomb in the territory of Benjamin at Zelzah; they will say to you, ‘The donkeys that you went to seek are found, and now your father has stopped worrying about them and is worrying about you, saying: What shall I do about my son?’
The text basically says......
Two men are going to tell you,
“Your father is worried about you, and trying to figure out
How do I find my son?”
(pause)
In this encounter Saul meets two men with connection to his family
(pause)
This sign authenticates Samuel’s word concerning the issue that motivated Saul to find the prophet in the first place...
(pause)
and next the text says.....
(Summarize or read.....)
Then you shall go on from there further and come to the oak of Tabor; three men going up to God at Bethel will meet you there, one carrying three kids, another carrying three loaves of bread, and another carrying a skin of wine.
They will greet you and give you two loaves of bread, which you shall accept from them.
The text says....
Saul is going to receive this wave offering which represents,
....the sacrificial part of the offering before God in ceremonial dedication before reserving it for the priests.
(slight pause)
And so this encounter shows Saul the legitamacy of Samuel’s anointing him....
......as he is being presented with food that is designated for use by one who was anointed.
And so......
.....when Saul accpets these gifts
.....he is basically saying i accept my anointing.
(pause)
Samuel says,
After that you’re going to receive a third sign....
(Summarize or read......)
The text says...
Saul is getting ready to have an encounter through this prophetic experience!
And the significance of the place where this is going to happen is based on the fact that.......
Gibeaath - elohim which means “ The Hill of God” is Saul’s hometown......
So when the text says......
“You will be turned into a different person”
......this transformation isn’t just based on how Saul sees Saul, but those who know him well will be able to see that something is different about him!
And after this.....
Saul and others would walk away convinced that....
…indeed Yawheh has also anointed Saul supernaturally
(pause and expound)
Look at it now....
Now when these signs meet you, do whatever you see fit to do, for God is with you.
Freedom.......
When I got to this verse........
something hit me......
(pause)
Because I started thinking about.......
How much we try to do on impulse without an anointing!
(pause)
And then those things that God has anointed us to do.......
.........we stand paralyzed with hesitation
(pause)
And so I guess my real question is.....
Why is it that we move without God as if we have full control?
But.....
....then fail to act when God is with us giving us full control?
(pause)
And make no mistake about it....
If we are going to do anything of impact here on earth.......
It’s going to take an anointing!
But watch this.......
Sauls anointing led to him having a heart change......
And the significance here is that if the anointing never affects our lives how can we ever expect anything GREAT to come from our lives......
(pause)
And I don’t know if I’m preaching to the right crowd this morning......
But I’m looking for some folk........
Who want to “DO” something great with OUR HANDS!
(pause and expound)
And Freedom...
Samuel tells Saul......
“Do whatever you see fit to do!”
(pause)
This word “Do” in the text in the Hebrew means.....
To Produce by labor, or CREATE, or carry out
(slight pause)
And so really....
What Samuel is telling Saul is......
Whatever your hands find........
.....to produce
.....to create
......to carry out
“DO IT!”
(pause)
And so what I hear in my spiritual imagination is that.....
Anointing without Action is WASTED PRODUCTION!
(pause)
And some of us are wasting our opportunities of productivity.....
.......because we refuse to “FIND it with our hands!”
(pause)
Now......
I almost fell into the trapped mindset that suggests......
“It’s easier to say you’re going to do something versus actually do something...”
(slight pause)
You know the phrase.....
“Don’t talk about it........Be about it!”
(pause)
And there might be a little bit of truth to that.....
(slight pause)
.....but I’m cautioned to buy into that thought completely because I believe
.......that speaking a thing could be in fact the first step in doing a thing!
Speak it (talking about speaking it into Existence)
Truly I tell you, if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and if you do not doubt in your heart, but believe that what you say will come to pass, it will be done for you.
(pause)
See it (talking about Vision)
Then the Lord answered me and said:
Write the vision;
make it plain on tablets,
so that a runner may read it.
For there is still a vision for the appointed time;
it speaks of the end, and does not lie.
If it seems to tarry, wait for it;
it will surely come, it will not delay.
(pause)
Do it (talking about taking Action)
For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is also dead.
(pause)
And not only do I see this as a progression......
But I also see this as a creshendo of passion towards purpose!
(pause)
Because........
Saul’s progress started with Samuel speaking his purpose into him........
“You are anointed by God to do something great”
And then......
Saul begin seeing all of these wonderous signs to authenticate and legitmize what was spoken......
And then finally.......
Samuel tells Saul,
“Whatever your hands find to create.......
DO IT!”
(pause)
And the reason you don’t have to hesitate in your “DOING”
.....is because God is with you and your hands!
(pause)
In other words......
“If you DO IT........
God got IT!”
(Expound and CLose)
Closing.......
Closing thought:
Everything God has been saying to you, and everything that God has been showing you was.......
........moving toward this spiritual creshendo
......and now we are at the point where
“Our hands have to FIND an action!”
And the good news is that........
We can move FREELY when we reach because every thing.....
......... is in alignment with God and Greatness
