Build your Character

“His conscience was the strongest element of his nature. His affections were tender and warm. His whole nature was simple and sincere – he was pure, and then was himself.”
This was written about Abraham Lincoln.
If you ask most people, you included, you would say that you are person with good character.
If I were to ask you, are you the best version of yourself, that you can be? Why not?
What is stopping you? What I’m asking you is this: What excuse will you use to not be the person that God wants you to be?
God wants you not only want you to be a person of good character, He has given you the ability to do it and expects your character to consistently get better.
2 Peter 1:2–4 NASB95
2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord; 3 seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence. 4 For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust.
2 Peter 1:5–7 NASB95
5 Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge, 6 and in your knowledge, self-control, and in your self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness, 7 and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love.
Diligence-
Moral excellence - Always do the right thing.
Knowledge - 5 hour rule. The most successful people on the planet spend 5 hours a week or one hour a workday learning something knew. Reading, writing, learning a new skill....etc..
self-control - discipline. Nic Saben said that there are two pains in life, the pain of discipline and the pain of disappointment. Choose the first or the second will be chosen for you.
perseverance - don’t quit.
godliness -
brotherly kindness -
Love.
Romans 5:3–5 NASB95
3 And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; 4 and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; 5 and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
James 1:2–4 NASB95
2 Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. 4 And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
