1 For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles,
2 If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward:
3 How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words,
4 Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ)
5 Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;
6 That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel:
7 Whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God given unto me by the effectual working of his power.
8 Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;
9 And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:
10 To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God,
11 According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord:
12 In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him.
13 Wherefore I desire that ye faint not at my tribulations for you, which is your glory.
This Cause - the preaching of the Gospel - so the gentiles could know
bond servant
prisoner
minister
I’m captivated - he spent a lot of time in prison
the jews didn’t like the preaching of the Gospel
Christians are being killed all over the world
for us to think we’ll never have to suffer for the Gospel is a little presumptuous
I’m so thankful i’m set free from the bondage of sin, death, and hell
I’m under the yoke of His Guidance
I’ve been set free from the power of this world
I’m chained to His divine grace
I’m shackled to His love
bound to Jesus in an eternal like sentence
never let me go free from Jesus
When I was free from Christ
Whether you understand it or not you've been set free from sin
12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
Self is dealt with
We can take up our cross
The enemy was defeated
I’m thankful to be a prisoner of the Lord
The Gentiles are invited into the family of God
apostle - one sent out - Missionary evangelist
Paul was sent out
You are all aposltes for the Gospel
Paul was sent out, we are sent out
We are to be prisoners of Jesus Christ for others we are called to witness to
There is only one Gospel
Peter was an apostle to the Jews
Paul was an apostle to the Gentiles
Your neighborhood is your mission field
Dispensation should be rendered, “stewardship.” We are God’s trustees for men. To each of us is given some special phase of truth which we must pass on to others by the force of our character or by the teaching of our lips. It was given to Paul to make known the great truth that Gentiles might enter the Church of God on equal terms with Jews.
Dispersement, management, stewardship, administer
There was a dispensation of the Gospel yesterday here in Warwick - I loved it
So enjoyed sharing the Gospel with believers yesterday
There is a dispensation that has been given to us
We have all been called to do this -
1 Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God.
2 Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.
God has required us to be faithful in the sharing of the Gospel
We are being recorded - all the books that God will judge us by will be opened
We are called ministers of Christ
We are slaves - we’re the lowest
I want to finish this race of life well - we don’t know when we’ll go home, but we’re to be living our life in a way that we wont be ashamed when we give an account
10 As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
Salvation is a gift
The Spirit of God is a gift
Ministry gifts
motivational gifts
Talents
Minister the same one to another
The things God gave us should be given to others so they may see Christ and the Gospel
Good Stewards of the gifts we have been given
All that we have is to be used for the Glory of God
Have you shared the Gospel
Are we dispersing the Gospel to this city God has put us in
Just because another brother or sister in Christ gives the Gospel, doesn’t mean i don’t have to give the Gospel
I understand you may give the Gospel at work, or as you travel - but we should give the Gospel everywhere and every opportunity we have.
3 How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words,
4 Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ)
5 Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;
What was the mystery - The Gospel will be preached to the gentiles and the Gentiles would be able to be on equal ground with the Hebrews of Old that put their faith in God and the Coming Messiah
In the OT you can see that gentiles would come to Christ - Rahab was an illustration of this - She was Gentile saved by faith!
Psalm 16:10 (KJV 1900)
10 For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; Neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
11 In that day will I raise up the tabernacle of David that is fallen, And close up the breaches thereof; And I will raise up his ruins, And I will build it as in the days of old:
12 That they may possess the remnant of Edom, and of all the heathen, Which are called by my name, Saith the Lord that doeth this.
16 After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up:
17 That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things.
3 Incline your ear, and come unto me: Hear, and your soul shall live; And I will make an everlasting covenant with you, Even the sure mercies of David.
4 Behold, I have given him for a witness to the people, A leader and commander to the people.
5 Behold, thou shalt call a nation that thou knowest not, And nations that knew not thee shall run unto thee Because of the Lord thy God, And for the Holy One of Israel; for he hath glorified thee.
6 Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, Call ye upon him while he is near:
12 And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom.
13 He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever.
14 I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men:
15 But my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before thee.
16 And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever.
The gospel Paul (and all the other apostles) proclaimed was the consummation of all that the Old Testament promised and anticipated. Paul presented the gospel in such a way that it connected all the dots, reaching the conclusion that Jesus is the Messiah, God’s only provision for the forgiveness of our sins.
Now the Gospel is revealed to every nation
6 That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel:
Gentiles everywhere have the ability to be partakers of the promise
Revealed unto the prophets and apostles
All power is given unto me
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Just because we cant do what we used to doesn't mean we can’t do anything
We cant quit - we cant retire
Right now there are people getting ready to go into eternity
There is nothing wrong with having fun - but we don’t have to live for the world
you will want to be a part of this dispensation of the Gospel
Who are you teaching right now?
How long have you been saved?
5, 10, 15yrs?
you don’t need a position
you don’t need a college degree
Sunday school class to teach someone the Gospel
It’s about the Gospel
Who are you telling
Who is being baptized through your witness
15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
We need to join in in this dispensation of the Gospel
The person you work with will face God
Our neighbors will face God
We may be here in Warwick but we’re called to get the Gospel to everyone.
34 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:
35 But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.
We arent better than anyone we just have the Gospel
7 Whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God given unto me by the effectual working of his power.
Ministers = servants - a waiter
We are conduits of the Gospel
Will you commit to share the Gospel with this week.
Would you pray that God would give you an opportunity
8 Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;
I remember leading my first soul to the Lord
9 And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:
As the apostle Paul was witnessing to king Agrippa, Paul said Jesus told him to -
18 To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.
People need Jesus
What would happen if we went from
What would happen to the atmosphere of our church
Church is the place we bring converts who we’ve given the Gospel
19 Whereupon, O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision:
10 To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God,
God wants the church to know and to see the spiritual warfare that is taking place
Principalities and powers - there is an enemy
11 According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord:
What was the eternal purpose?
8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
As we dispense the Gospel we help accomplish Christ’s purpose of destroying the works of the Devil
There are people all around us that we could destroy the works of the devil in their life
We cant become just a social meeting place
Lets tell those in bondage there’s someone that free them
Let’s tell the broken there’s someone that can mend them
Let’s tell the blind there’s someone that can heal them
Let’s use our gifts to dispense the Gospel that with which we’ve been entrusted
Remember that Paul and Barnabas are now in Asia Minor, and not in Jerusalem. These folks were not there in Jerusalem crying, “Crucify! Crucify!” (Luke 23:21) That is why Paul distances the rejection of Jesus by those in Jerusalem from his audience, removed hundreds of miles from Jerusalem. But now they are given the same message, and thus they are being confronted with their own decision regarding Jesus, but Paul’s gospel presentation is not yet complete.
In rejecting Jesus, the people of Jerusalem and their rulers unwittingly fulfilled the words of the Old Testament prophets. Thus, this came as no shock to God, but was only the fulfillment of His purposes. They not only rejected Jesus as their Messiah, they demanded that He be put to death, even though there was no legal basis for doing so. And when Pilate gave in to their demands and crucified Jesus, they buried Him in a tomb.
That would seem to be the end of it, but it was not. Verse 30 begins with the words, “But God. . . .” Although the people of Jerusalem rejected Jesus and had Him put to death, God raised Him from the dead. This is no idle claim; Jesus appeared alive to His disciples for many days, and they in turn have testified to His resurrection (Acts 15:31 ). What the apostles proclaimed to others, Paul and Barnabas are proclaiming to those gathered in this synagogue in Pisidian Antioch. God’s promise of a coming Messiah – One who will reign forever on the throne of David – has been fulfilled by the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus.
31 Which when they had read, they rejoiced for the consolation.
