Luke 2:40 ESV

And the child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom. And the favor of God was upon him.

Jesus is one of the few born who will survive to adulthood.

Wisdom, this kind of discernment

Luke 2:47 ESV

And all who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers.

Luke 2:52 ESV

And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and man.

Favor of God - takes after his mother.

Luke 1:30 ESV

And the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.

Jesus like his mother is the object of God’s grace, not the origin of it in this phraseology.

a Sword to Mary’s Soul

Luke 2:34–35 ESV

And Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, “Behold, this child is appointed for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign that is opposed (and a sword will pierce through your own soul also), so that thoughts from many hearts may be revealed.”

Luke 2:51 ESV

And he went down with them and came to Nazareth and was submissive to them. And his mother treasured up all these things in her heart.

Whose Father?

Luke 2:48–49 ESV

And when his parents saw him, they were astonished. And his mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us so? Behold, your father and I have been searching for you in great distress.” And he said to them, “Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father’s house?”
