I. Smooth Sailing vs. 1-8
I. Smooth Sailing vs. 1-8
A. After 2 years of imprisonment Paul is finally on his way to Rome!
B. At first he has the favor his escort Julian. He even lets Dr. Luke and Aristarchus join him in the journey .
C. Praise God for the times that are smooth sailing, but realize that it’s not going to last. Enjoy it while you still can!
II. Stormy Weather vs 9-20
II. Stormy Weather vs 9-20
A. The reason they wanted to get out of Fair Havens is because it was a small boring port. (Kings Mountain ex).
B. Paul had learned to be content, but the Romans…not so much. Phil. 4:11-13
Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am.
I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need.
I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.
C. Many times God saves us from our mistakes. God blesses us in spite of ourselves. Others will be blessed either because of you or in spite of you. Which one will it be?
D. “When God put a calling on your life He already factored in your stupidity” I’d like to add, that He factored in other’s stupidity as well.
III. Shipwrecked…Again? vs. 21-44
III. Shipwrecked…Again? vs. 21-44
A. Paul starts off with “I told you so...”. Let’s face it, if you’ve gone 2 whole weeks like that, you would be angry too.
B. Paul was confident, because he belonged to God. Which we realize that we belong to God, then nothing unnecessary will happen to us! I Cor. 6:19-20
Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?
For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.
C. God isn’t like us, we are “objective-oriented” while He is “process-oriented”. “We just want to get to Rome, but God is even more interested in how we get there”- R. Kent Hughes.
D. Paul knew that he was going to serve God. What God has told us in the night, don’t forget when things get hard.
E. Things got worse, before they got better.
F. Paul had been shipwrecked with Paul. This was Paul’s 4th shipwreck! II Cor. 11:25
Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was stoned, three times I was shipwrecked, a night and a day I have spent in the deep.
