Introduction

We often talk about all that God can do and how all powerful God is, but today I want to show you how powerful God is through a few things that God cannot do.

God Cannot…

I. Lie or break a promise

A. What God promises, he will do.

1. II Timothy 2:13
a. Even when we turn our backs on God, he will still fulfill his promises towards us.
b. Aren’t you glad that you don’t have to hold onto your salvation?
2. Titus 1:2
a. God had set salvation aside before he even made the world, before there was a heaven or hell.
b. God had a plan for your life, before you were even born.
c. Would you feel special if the President of the U.S. personally knew and liked you enough to allow his only son to die for you?
d. Much more the Almighty God of the Universe.
3. John 3:16
a. Is there a different translation of the word “not”?
b. …because my Bible says whoever believes and trust in Jesus Christ as their savior will NOT perish…did God lie?
c. Everlasting means lasting forever, even in the physical life.

B. God is a godly father and Satan is the father of lies.

1. Numbers 23:19,20
a. God will make good on his word.
b. Have you ever broken a promise?
c. Isn’t it great that God will not!
2. Hebrews 6:18
a. We can be sure of God’s promises.
b. God is unchanging and is therefore the perfect foundation for our lives.
3. Psalm 89:33
a. God will never break a promise because he loves us.

II. Stop loving his children

A. God still loved the Israelites, even after all they did in rejection of his word.

1. Deuteronomy 33:3
a. No matter what you do, God still loves you.
b. He may allow you to experience some hard times, but he will protect you.
2. Romans 5:8
a. Even though we fall so far short of God’s glory, he still loved us enough to give his son.
b. You can never do anything so bad that God will not love you.
3. I John 4:7-12,19
a. God is love.
b. It is not humanly natural to have the love of God.
c. Watch the news; hate is natural.
4. Romans 8:35-39
a. Nothing can separate us from God’s love, not even our sins.
b. However, God is a just God and cannot allow sin to go unpunished.

III. Allow his children to live a lifestyle of sin.

A. We are supposed to live a different life.

1. Matthew 12:33-35
a. We are supposed to live for God.
b. You are known by your fruit.
c. Do your friends know you’re a Christian?
d. Are they saved? If not, who are you waiting on to tell them?
2. I Corinthians 6:9-11
a. Sanctified means set apart.
b. You have a new purpose in life—God’s purpose.
3. Romans 6
a. We die to our former self when we are saved.
b. Sin should no longer rule over our lives, we’ve had our “want-to” fixed.
c. If you think that vs. 23 applies only to the lost, you have some hard times ahead.
d. If you have come for “Revival” today with unconfessed sin in your life, you are wasting your time.
e. This is the problem with many of us wanting “revival”: we want that warm, fuzzy feeling again, but we don’t want to let go of all the sin in our lives.

IV. Hear your prayers if you have sin in your life.

A. The only prayer God hears from the sinner is a prayer of repentance.

1. Psalm 66:18
a. What does it mean to “regard iniquity in my heart”?
b. It means to give place to sin in your heart.
2. Proverbs 1:23-33
a. If we will first listen to God, then he will listen to us.
b. I would not want to be the one that that verse talks about!

B. Prayer of the lost

1. There is good news.
2. God will hear one prayer from a lost person, the prayer of salvation.
3. Romans 10:13

C. Prayer of the saved sinner.

1. Do you really want revival?
2. There is one prayer God will hear from you, the prayer of repentance.
3. “The prayers of the RIGHTEOUS availeth much”
4. You cannot be revived with sin in your heart.
5. What is sin? Death. What is Christ? Life.
6. As Joshua said to the Israelites: Chose you this day whom you will serve…but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

V. Conclusion

Do you want to experience revival today? If so, it has to start with you. The church is a body of many believers, and if one, if YOU, are not in line with Christ’s will, the whole church will suffer. You cannot continue in a sinful lifestyle and expect to experience revival. Will you allow Christ to revive you today?
