Convictional Reception

1 & 2 Thessalonians (Chapter 8: Not of Men but of God (1 Thessalonians 2:13–17))
: “Will you recant?” Luther’s bold answer consisted of these famous words: “Unless I am convinced by the testimony of the Scriptures or by clear reason, for I do not trust in the pope or the councils alone, since it is well known that they often err and contradict each other, I am bound to the Scriptures I have quoted and my conscience is captive to the Word of God.… I cannot do otherwise. 12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
v.14
Judean churches were the first to be planted and therefore were surely models of faithful convictional life under persecution.
v.15
John 1:11 ESV
11 He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him.
v.16
The Jews were guilty of what then?
Luke 12:10 ESV
10 And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but the one who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.
And what does the Holy Spirit do?
John 14:26 ESV
26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.
John 16:8 ESV
8 And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment:
