SANCTIFICATION FOLLOWING JUSTIFICATION Zechariah 3:6–7 (ESV) 6And the angel of the Lord solemnly assured 7 Joshua, “Thus says the Lord of hosts: If you will walk in my ways and keep my charge, then you shall rule my house and have charge of my courts, and I will give you the right of access among those who are standing here. 1 Peter 3:18 (ESV) For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit, 2 Corinthians 5:21 (ESV) For our sake he [God the Father] made him [Jesus] to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him [Jesus] we might become the righteousness of God. Romans 4:5 (ESV) And to the one who does not work but believes in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted as righteousness, Romans 5:6 (ESV) For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. Galatians 2:16 (ESV) yet we know that a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified. 1 Corinthians 1:2 (ESV) To the church of God that is in Corinth, to those sanctified [lit. to those who have been sanctified] in Christ Jesus, called to be saints [lit. holy ones] together with all those who in every place call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, both their Lord and ours: 2 Timothy 2:20 (ESV) Now in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver but also of wood and clay, some for honorable use, some for dishonorable. 2 Timothy 2:21 (ESV) Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work. 2 Timothy 2:22–23 (ESV) 22So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart. 23Have nothing to do with foolish, ignorant controversies; you know that they breed quarrels. 2 Corinthians 7:1(ESV) Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God. 2 Corinthians 6:17–18 (ESV) 17Therefore go out from their midst, and be separate from them, says the Lord, and touch no unclean 18 thing; then I will welcome you, and I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty.” 1 Peter 1:14–19 (ESV) 14As obedient children, do not be conformed to the 15 passions of your former ignorance, but as he who called 16 you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.” 1 Peter 1:14–19 (ESV) 17And if you call on him as Father who judges impartially according to each one’s deeds, conduct yourselves with fear throughout the time of your exile, 18knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things 19 such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot. 1 Peter 1:3–4 (ESV) 3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the 4 resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, 1 Corinthians 6:11 (ESV) 11And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. 2 Timothy 1:9 (ESV) who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began, Philippians 2:12–13 (ESV) Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear 13 and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure. Titus 2:11–14 (ESV) 11For the grace of God has appeared, bringing 12 salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, Hebrews 12:14 (ESV) Strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord. Hebrews 12:4–6 (ESV) In your struggle against sin you have not yet 5 resisted to the point of shedding your blood. And have you forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons? “My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor be weary when reproved by 6 him. For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives.” 7It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his 8 father does not discipline? If you are left without discipline, in which all have participated, then you are 9 illegitimate children and not sons. Besides this, we have had earthly fathers who disciplined us and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to the 10 Father of spirits and live? For they disciplined us for a short time as it seemed best to them, but he disciplines us for our good, that we may share his holiness. Zechariah 3:7a (ESV) “Thus says the Lord of hosts: If you will walk in my ways” Deuteronomy 28:9 (ESV) The Lord will establish you as a people holy to himself, as he has sworn to you, if you keep the commandments of the Lord your God and walk in his ways. John 17:17 (ESV) Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. 2 Thessalonians 2:13 (ESV) But we ought always to give thanks to God for you, brothers beloved by the Lord, because God chose you as the firstfruits to be saved, through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth.
