Intro
last week of Luke story
we will pick up next quarter
next week I will be gone and someone will teach on the parables
Top of the Mountain
Jesus and his closest three apostles go up to a high place around the Galilee
a perfect amount of time after he announces his death, which he will do again today
he goes there to pray because of what starts when he comes down
Moses, Elijah, and Jesus together and speaking of his departure
the three mortals tired from their journey are awoken by the scene
Peter says something good again
the cloud comes, an image of all that God is surrounding them and speaking to the three
and then there is just Jesus as they had known him before
they kept all of this to their selves
Bottom of the Mountain
they are met with challenge immediately after coming down
a demon possessed boy and his father
I begged your disciples but they could not do it
they have done so much more by his power in the past
maybe they hadn’t been given the power again
maybe they simply had their faith in the wrong things
Jesus sends it away with a word and all are amazed once again
after this Jesus tries to correct their lack of faith by telling them what he is going to do to no avail
finally, they are found arguing about the least important of things, refusing to understand the kingdom they work for
it is the most humble who is closes to God, not the most proud
Application
there are times in your walk with God that you will be on top of the mountain
there are times when you will feel so far beneath it that you’ll never make it back up
we always strive toward our goal regardless as Jesus did, that is the challenge
when no one around us understands or when we don’t seem to understand, their is still a kingdom to be working for that accepts the most humble of us as greatest
