Have you ever thrown yourself into something so much that it starts become your identity?
When I was younger I would have to say that part of my identiy was being a fan of the Marvel Cinematic universe
I loved to watch the movies over and over again so much so that I say the first Avengers movie seven times in theatres. You see people recognized that I loved marvel so much that kept getting invited by family or friends to go and watch the movie. It was a exciting thing for me in that stage of my life.
See I loved marvel so much that I began putting more and more time into it, I would watch the movies, talk with my friends about what will happen next, I would even be invested into watching some of the marvel shows that were coming out. Like those ones from 5-10 years ago that were not that great so marvel had to say they aren’t cannon.
Where I put my time into started to become my identity, but now I have to be completely honest. That is not who I am anymore. I mean I still watch the marvel shows on disney plus but usally I watch them about a week late. I still enjoy seeing the marvel movies but again I am not enthusded enough to watch them on opening night.
Where I put my time into started to change, and who I was started to change.
So, my identity changed.
You have probablly had the same experience too, Where you invest yourself, your time, engery, skills into something and that becomes your identity.
Maybe that identity is your job, it takes plenty of time, it takes your energry. Are you known for what you do?
Maybe its a hobby? It takes your time, takes enegery, takes your finances, are you know for your interests?
Maybe its your fashion. It takes time to look good. It takes energry to get the right look, it can also be defined by what you wear, the brands you repersent. Are you known for what you wear or how you look?
See where we invest our time, energry, money, even our motivation they can quickly define who we are, they start to represent us and the people around us start to associate us more and more with what ever that is.
When we think of who we are we also probably associate that with us where we say, “That is so me”, or “I need that becuase it corrilates with who I am”.
I think we are at this werid time too as a church where we are just starting to confirm this idenity and we are just getting onboard in this vision and this mission.
