CIT: God provides for us in times of plenty, is close to us in times of suffering, and cares for all that we need, and because of this we find our deepest relaxation in his presence.
The Lord Provides
The Lord is near
The Lord cares
We relax
The Lord provides - Psalm 23:1-3
The Lord provides peace
The Lord provides security
The Lord provides restoration
The Lord provides righteousness
The Lord is near - Psalm 23:4
In the first three verses God was spoken of in the 3rd person, but now, when we are in the darkest times of suffering God is written about in the 1st person.
Do you see what the Psalmist is conveying?
That when we are in the deepest depression and suffering God is nearest to us.
God’s heart longs to comfort those who are hurting and broken.
The Lord cares - Psalm 23:5
Because the Lord cares about us and how we are the Psalmist shows that God is the ultimate host.
He defeats our enemies - enemies being chained to the walls around the kings dining area - and provides for us while defeating our enemies
He cares for our bodies - anointing of the head with oil for a guest would be to clean, freshen, and moisturize the hair and skin of a weary traveller
He cares about what we need - this is better seen as my cup never runs out, just like a good waiter makes sure that your cup is never empty, God makes sure that we have all that we truly need.
We relax - Psalm 23:6
The place where true relaxation, peace, and security come to us is not in things of this world, but it is in proper relationship with God through worship.
