CIT: In order to have a Christians life that is fulfilling and growing our focus must be on Jesus Christ alone.
CIT: In order to have a Christians life that is fulfilling and growing our focus must be on Jesus Christ alone.
Intro: This is a section that you guys are familiar with because I have preached out of it multiple times and reference almost any chance I get. We have often looked at how radical of a command Paul gives us in verses 1-4, and how then verses 5-11 are the basis for that command. But tonight we will be looking solely at verses 5-11 because that section starts with a peculiar statement by Paul, “Have this in mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus.” This means that what ever is to follow we should memorize it and have it implanted deep into our minds, have it impact how we live by having what is to follow continually in the forefront of our minds, and these truths have been given to us only when we are found to be in Christ Jesus. Paul shows us that our focus, and basis for how we live, should be Christ alone.

On Jesus’s life - Philippians 2:6-7
On Jesus’s life - Philippians 2:6-7
Jesus’s life was one of humble service
Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going back to God, rose from supper. He laid aside his outer garments, and taking a towel, tied it around his waist. Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him.
even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Jesus’s life had a clear mission
For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”
On Jesus’s cross - Philippians 2:8
On Jesus’s cross - Philippians 2:8
Jesus’s cross shows us true obedience
Philippians 2:8 “And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.”
If we want to learn what it means to truly obey God then we must look at Jesus’s cross
Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.
Jesus’s cross shows us true humility
Philippians 2:8 “And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.”
Jesus’s cross shows us true love
For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.
On Jesus’s glory - Philippians 2:9-11
On Jesus’s glory - Philippians 2:9-11
God’s glory is the meaning of our lives
WSC Q1: What is the chief end of man?
WSC A1: To glorify God and enjoy him forever.
Psalm 23:3 “He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.”
At the end of all things everyone, the people who submitted to Jesus in faith, the people who despised and rejected him, even the people who claimed to be indifferent we will all bow before Jesus declaring him as Lord.
Why? For God’s glory Philippians 2:11 “and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
