Through out this story this morning one of the parallels that will be drawn is that of the acts of Boaz and the acts of Christ.

This is a parallels through out the book of Ruth.

In this passage we will start to see the reward for Ruths faithfulness to her Mother-in-law Naomi.

1.) The Revealing of the Recompense (vv8-9)

The report that Boaz had received about Ruth had impressed him and he engages her in conversation.

The Site for the Gleaning

The Field of the Site

Boaz gave Ruth specific instructions not to glean in anyone else's field.

The blessings would only come from his field.

This is like Christ it is only through Him that we can have salvation

people look for it in many other ways but it can only come through Him and Him alone.

The Fellowship at the Site

Boaz told Ruth to stay close to his female servants.

It can be deduced that due to Boaz’s high moral standing that his servants would also have the same high standards.

Ruth was able to have fellowship and a since of belonging with the female servants of Boaz.

Much like we are made to have fellowship with other believers.

The Focus on the Site v9

Boaz told Ruth to keep her eyes on the field and not to stray from it.

Too many times this happens to us as Christians.

We lose our focus and we stray of the path.

The Supping for the Gleaning

The Priority of The Water

Boaz made water a priority for Ruth to have.

She was allowed to have some when ever she needed it.

This is also a parallel of Christ He is the living water and we are aloud to come and drink anytime we want to.

The Privilege of the Water

Not all who gleaned in the fields were allowed water.

This was a special honor that Boaz gave to Ruth.

The Portrayal in the Water

In allowing Ruth to have water anytime she wanted it Boaz was giving this foreshadowing to Christ in

John 7:37  On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink.

The Safety for The Gleaning

Boaz assured Ruth that she would be safe in his field and would be protected from harm.

During this time in history women had very few right especially if they were foreigners.

Sexual assault and physical assault were the norm during this time.

Just like Boaz gave safety to Ruth during this time Christ also gives us the protection as long as we glean in His field and don’t stray.

2.) The Reassurance of the Recompense

The need for Reassurance

As one may think Ruth was taken aback by the generosity of Boaz and could not understand why he was being so kind to her

The first thing we see with her response to the reassurance is:

Her Prostration

She fell on the ground flat out on her face thanking Boaz for being so kind to her.

Her Perplexity

She could not understand why someone who did not know her would be so kind to her, she was a beggar and a foreigner and a woman. These three things ment that she had no rights or protections at all but Boaz still treated her with kindness and respect.

The Nature of the Reassurance

The Praising of Ruth

The Care of a Jew (her mother-in-law)

Ruth was out in the fields working hard to provide for herself and for her mother-in-law.

Her coming to Juda

Ruth could have turned back with her sister-in-law but chose to follow Naomi to Bethlehem to start over.

Her confidence in Jehovah

Not only had she left her people behind but her Gods and customs as well. Even at this point early in her story she had the faith in God that would prove to be her strength in the whole story.

The Prayer for Ruth

The source of the Prayer

Boaz prays for God to bless Ruth for her Faithfulness.

All blessings come from the Lord.

The Size of the Recompense

Boaz prayed that Ruth would be given all that was due her.

God always gives a full measure of blessings to those that are faithful to Him.
