How I want to do things
How I want to do things
I’m just a man, like everyone else
I’m not a teacher, I’m just passionate
I’m not God (should be obvious)
Honesty, integrity, a lack of authoritative teaching, thoughtful
Approachable
Much deeper than surface level discussions and the baseline topics/questions
Leverage discernment
Why I feel it’s necessary to do these kinds of things

All who dwell on the earth will worship him, everyone whose name has not been written from the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb who has been slain.
vs
“The beast that you saw was, and is not, and is about to come up out of the abyss and go to destruction. And those who dwell on the earth, whose name has not been written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, will wonder when they see the beast, that he was and is not and will come.
For there are three that testify:
the Spirit and the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement.
But you, why do you judge your brother? Or you again, why do you regard your brother with contempt? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God.

Doctrinal dogmatism (using the Protestant vision of “The Church”)
Dogmatic teaching of doctrines which are heavily contested
Anathematizing doctrines outright which are heavily contested
Compounding salvific knowledge (“The Gospel”) to include these doctrines; affirmative or negative
Overextended authority in preaching
Part of doctrinal dogmatism, but more so the practice of teaching something “…is true..” even when contested
Practices like saying, “The translation is more accurately {x} in the Greek.”
Preaching Jesus was “omniscient” even in his human-form
“The Search for ‘The Church’”
Catholicism vs Protestantism
Tradition vs Heresy
A discussion about the things we divide over and their impact
For there must also be factions among you, so that those who are approved may become evident among you.
Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality,
idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions,
envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Do we divide over things that are essential, not because they can lead to bad conclusions, but simply because we disagree
The idea of dividing on the sole basis of voicing an idea rather than judging the consistency of conclusions
(ties into dogmatism)
“Waking up from our slumber”
To “love God” in the Biblical sense means to pursue Him and placing Him first. This is a cliche, but that can’t be helped. Cliches are full of wisdom for a reason. If we simply bask in presupposing the work of our forefathers was sufficient, and we simply passively rest in what is taught to us, we aren’t really “pursuing” anything by any reasonable definition of the word.
On top of that, how did our forefathers pursue knowledge of Christ?
They went to the source(s).
They devoted themselves to prayer and reading.

Show Logos
Always listen to teachings or lectures by the author before buying any of their books
If you can’t invest time watching them speak, you likely won’t read what they think
Safeguard yourself and your resources from frivolous spending just because of a recommendation
You may not agree with, or are confident a particular set of beliefs they hold are incorrect
Books that helped me greatly
Remember that discernment is always implied
A recommendation is always to be taken assuming not everything is endorsed
