Good morning everyone!
I would like to ask all you can to stand with me in reverence of God’s Word. If you have your Bibles with you today, would you hold them up in the air and repeat after me?
“This is my Bible. It is God’s Word. It is a lamp unto my feet, a light unto my path, and I will hide its words within my heart, that I might not sin against God.”
Would you be finding in your Bibles, Luke 4:18-19? I know this is where we were last week, but I feel that we just didn’t get finished with breaking this down, so we are going to go back to this text again today and dig a little dipper! The Word of God is like a mine that we are to continuously dig in search of the truth of God, and I firmly believe that we should mine it for all of its wealth, Amen! Are you ready to get rich? Alright, let’s go!
18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed;
19 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”
Let’s pray!
You may be seated.
I think we can all say that at some point in our lives, the game of “Copy-Cat” has played its role! I watch the kids do this all the time. I must admit, there are times when it is really annoying. There are times when the kids will copy one another just to aggravate and stir up some stuff. But then there are times when this simple little game can become quite fun and even challenging. I get to laughing at the kids when they play. It usually starts out in fun, but then loses its appeal after some time. It is at that point when the fun turns into aggravation and someone usually starts getting upset.
Here recently, Layne has started to figure out how to make his brother and sister stop copying him. He either changes the words around on them (I’m a fuzzy cheeseball), or he will begin to say things that they are simply not willing to say (Layne is the best; Layne is the smartest; etc.).
Last week, we looked at the entirety of this text and we talked about how Jesus was quoting Isaiah 61:1-2. We also talked about how He announced in v. 21, that this prophecy was fulfilled in Him on this very day! It is so important that we understand that, because we are going to need that truth today. In fact, we are going to take that truth and use it as a springboard to take us deeper into our understanding of this text.
My hope is that when we are finished today, that the application of this text will truly come to life in your hearts and give you a better understanding of what your purpose in this life is.
