What is a disciple?

Disciple- a follower or student of a teacher, leader or philosopher
Matthew 28:18–20 NLT
Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
As Christians we are called to do more than say a prayer and go on with our lives. We are called to go and make disciples. We are called to do something with what God has done in us. But what qualifies us to make disciples for Jesus? Jesus!
Matthew 28:18 NLT
Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth.
Matthew 28:20 NLT
Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
Jesus has all the authority and He is with us, so we don’t have to worry about our qualifications. How do you make disciples? Just tells us what this looks like too.
Luke 6:40 NLT
Students are not greater than their teacher. But the student who is fully trained will become like the teacher.
The goal is not to make disciples of us, but of Jesus. That means we don’t have to be perfect, we are growing like everyone else. Now that’s not an excuse to sin, but it does take off some of the pressure. The thing we do have to make sure of is that we are disciples of Jesus.
How to become a disciple
Repentance Matthew 4:17 “From then on Jesus began to preach, “Repent of your sins and turn to God, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near.””
It’s not just about sin, but about changing your thought process and your lifestyle.
