The New Year is an excellent time for reflection, reevaluation, recommitment, and refocus.
The Lord has put on my heart to be Intentional and Strategic this year in fulfilling our God-given assignment.
To do this, we must never forget who we are and why we are here.
The title of this message is You were created to be filled with God’s Spirit.
The God-given purpose of today's message is to show God's people why they were created and to be people that are fully submitted to God and to be filled with His Spirit and Word.
Being filled with God’s spirit will help to overcome every ungodly trap, stronghold, habit, and deception of the enemy by developing godly habits and a spirit of excellence.
You were created in God’s image.
And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
The problem is mankind lost its connection to God
How did the devil fool Eve?
And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
By eating the forbidden fruit; Adam and Eve traded the image and likeness of God (capital G) to be as gods (lower case g).
Many people today are trading God’s abundant life for the pleasure of sin for a season, they are trading the eternal for the temporary.
True believers see the value of Christ regardless of the circumstances and trail they face.
Man must see the value of being connected to God
It is better to suffer affliction with the people of God than to live in sin.
Let look at the Hebrews and Romans said:
By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter; Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward.
For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
Both Moses and Paul had a revelation of the reign in life by their faith in God.
Apostle Paul explains the revelation of the fall of man and what makes man reign in this life.
For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)
What does reign in life mean?
The word bas-il-yoo means to exercise the highest influence, to control, to obtain royal power, to have dominion.
God has restored man’s original dominion back through Jesus Christ.
This dominion empowers us to defeat ungodly habits in this life.
Psalm 8:4–6 “What is man, that thou art mindful of him? And the son of man, that thou visitest him? For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, And hast crowned him with glory and honour. Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; Thou hast put all things under his feet:”
God’s Spirit is the Spirit of Excellence
It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom an hundred and twenty princes, which should be over the whole kingdom; And over these three presidents; of whom Daniel was first: that the princes might give accounts unto them, and the king should have no damage. Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.
Then the presidents and princes sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find none occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him.
The spirit of excellence is a life submitted to God's heart.
Daniel was captured and taken in exile while he was a young man. Approximately 17 or 18 when he was captured.
He was 70 when he went in the lion.
He served under 5 ungodly kings
Yet he held on to his faith in the true and living God.
How did Daniel hold on to his faith?
Daniel was full of God’s word and Spirit- many of the exiled forgot their faith.
Daniel had a habit of prayers - Experiencing the presence of God
Then they came near, and spake before the king concerning the king’s decree; Hast thou not signed a decree, that every man that shall ask a petition of any God or man within thirty days, save of thee, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions? The king answered and said, The thing is true, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.
Daniel 6:13 (KJV 1900)
Then answered they and said before the king, That Daniel, which is of the children of the captivity of Judah, regardeth not thee, O king, nor the decree that thou hast signed, but maketh his petition three times a day.
