The Bible is meant to be bread for daily use, not cake for special occasions.
Luke 15:11–13 KJV 1900
And he said, A certain man had two sons: And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living. And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living.

The Importance of Study

2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV 1900)
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
1 Peter 3:13–16 (KJV 1900)
And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good? But and if ye suffer for righteousness’ sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled; But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear: Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.
Matthew 11:28–30 KJV 1900
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

The Reality of Life

We can be tempted to claim blessings only when convenient
Luke 15:12 KJV 1900
And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living.
We can be tempted to live off of yesterday’s blessings
Deuteronomy 32:16–18 (KJV 1900)
They provoked him to jealousy with strange gods,With abominations provoked they him to anger. They sacrificed unto devils, not to God; to gods whom they knew not, to new gods that came newly up, whom your fathers feared not. Of the Rock that begat thee thou art unmindful, and hast forgotten God that formed thee.
We can be tempted to relieve ourselves of duty
2 Timothy 2:15 KJV 1900
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
We can be easily overwhelmed
Isaiah 29:9–12 (KJV 1900)
Stay yourselves, and wonder; cry ye out, and cry: they are drunken, but not with wine; they stagger, but not with strong drink. For the Lord hath poured out upon you the spirit of deep sleep, and hath closed your eyes: the prophets and your rulers, the seers hath he covered. And the vision of all is become unto you as the words of a book that is sealed, which men deliver to one that is learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I cannot; for it is sealed: and the book is delivered to him that is not learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I am not learned.
66 books, 1,189 chapters, 783,137 words, spans 3700-4000 years of history
We forget the work of the Holy Spirit
John 14:26 KJV 1900
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

The Return to Study

Luke 15:16–19 KJV 1900
And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him. And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father’s have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants.
Study is a regular task
Study is a current task
Study is a personal task
Study is a comforting task
Study is a team task
Luke 15:20–24 KJV 1900
And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son. But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet: And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry: For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.

Dream not too much of what you’ll do tomorrow,
How well you’ll work another year;
Tomorrow’s chance you need not borrow
Today is here
Boast not too much of mountains you will master
The while you linger in the vale below.
To dream is well, but plodding brings us faster
To where we go.
Talk not too much about some new endeavor
You mean to make a little later on.
Who idles now will idle on forever
until life is gone
Swear not some day to break some habit’s fetters,
When this old year is dead and passed away;
If you have need of living wiser, better,
Begin Today!
