The New Kid in Town
The New Kid in Town
I. People will listen to the Word.
When the message is truth.
When the messenger is trustworthy.
The Church was a gathering place to hear truth.
OT synagogue was comprised of at least 10 families.
II. Jesus was the fulfillment Isaiah’s prophecy.
He grew up in the church.
He had knowledge of the scriptures.
He understood the needs of the people.
Jesus understood His Purpose that God chose.
II. The Truth of the Message
1. The bondage of sin.
2. Open the prison doors.
3. To set the captives free.
III. The condition of a sinful life.
see Galatians 5:1
For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.
For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.
For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.
Truth sets free, Power of the Gospel, wonder-working power. see Jn. 8:31-32
So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
Why the people reject Jesus’ message.
They were not looking for the Messiah at that time.
Compare with the end-times, whose watching and making changes to their lives.
Allowing the Word of truth to affect our behavior.
Real believing Christians have the character of Christ.
A Genuine concern for the Lost people.
Unconditional Love, says drop everything & help out or send provisions to those in need.
Why did the people become angry with Jesus? He told them the prophets were limited by the lack of faith to believe in the prophets.
Notice how quickly they turned from amazement of Jesus’ words to wrath and to drive him out of the city.
III. Jesus’ message to the world today.
Repent of sin and turn to the saving power of the gospel. Quit being like the rest of the world.
Comment about the concert crowd on Thursday night.
