What is the best way to communicate?

Have you ever thought about this question? Most of us to some extent have done so. Yet, it really all depends. Some of it depends on generation and capabilities. It also depends on the goal of the communication.

Information does not always lead to transformation.

Communication can lead to just informing someone or trying to help bring about change and transformation. However information is important for transformation.

Questions are important.

There is a movement in our Christian circles about questioning the faith. It sounds scary. It is at times just that. Some hear of the questioning and just dismiss the concerns, thoughts as petty and unimportant. Others will say things like, “just have faith”. Though both responses can be appropriate I think we need to honor the questions and work towards helping a person grapple with their faith, doubt, and the state of our world.

The Gospel is about transformation.

At the heart of the Gospel is the call of transformation. One can know everything about the Gospel, everything about Christ and Scripture and yet not be transformed. Transformation is at times immediate and drastic. Other times it is a slow process. Both comes to the same result: a different person.

The Gospel- God calls.

This is the Gospel. God calls. We are not, left to our own wanderings, seeking God.

God calls in grace.

God gives us what we do not deserve. This is why at times the Gospel seems to good to be true. I mean we have a saying, “If it sounds too good to be true then it probably is.” Until at least there is evidence/information which states otherwise. God faithfully uses grace to woo people to himself.

God calls in grace, into Christ Jesus.

The Israelites were called by God’s grace to be in covenant with Him. But what makes the difference is who Christ is! We are called into Christ and in Christ and Christ alone do we find salvation. To add anything to this gospel is the concern of Paul.

Christ plus anything is NOT the Gospel.

Paul talks about this throughout the rest of our verses and this is a major point of Galatians. Anything else is a distortion, perversion, and will cause confusion.

Paul’s astonishment should have us reflect.

This is not just a way of speaking to get the readers attention, though it does. It is a true concern because when we understand God’s call of grace, to turn away from that truly is amazing.

The Gospel changes identity.

Paul went from trying to please the Pharisees, himself, and the law of Moses to become a slave/servant of Christ. The truth is we will all be a slave to something; the question is what/who? Grace may be free but it will require change and transformation. This change of identity makes all the difference for Paul, the church in Galatia, and us today.
