Jeremiah 3:14-15

14 Turn, O backsliding children, saith the LORD; for I am married unto you: and I will take you one of a city, and two of a family, and I will bring you to Zion:
15 And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.
In this study we find the TYPES of preachers that have ruined churches.

I. No Hope Preachers.

2 Samuel 18:22
Then said Ahimaaz the son of Zadok yet again to Joab, But howsoever, let me, I pray thee, also run after Cushi. And Joab said, Wherefore wilt thou run, my son, seeing that thou hast no tidings ready?
“Thou hast no tidings”
tidings
(1828) News; advice; information; intelligence; account of what has taken place, and was not before known.

II. No Holiness Preachers.

Lev 20:7 Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy: for I am the LORD your God.
1Pe 1:15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
1Pe 1:16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
“Be ye holy”
(1828) whole, entire or perfect, in a moral sense. Hence, pure in heart, temper or dispositions; free from sin and sinful affections. Applied to the Supreme Being, holy signifies
perfectly pure…in moral character
immaculate and…in moral character
complete in moral character

III. No Humility Preachers.

2 Corinthians 4:5 (AV)
For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus’ sake.
The Devil loves when his preachers are preaching:
2 Corinthians 11:12–14 (AV)
12 But what I do, that I will do, that I may cut off occasion from them which desire occasion; that wherein they glory, they may be found even as we.
13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.
14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.
Two errors they fall into:
They preach Christ with no cross;
The preach a cross with no Christ
And if these aren’t bad enough they preach themselves

IV. No Hell Preachers.

No consequences to Children.
No consequences to Church.
No consequences to Conscience.
“Seared”
(1828) Burnt on the furface; cauterized; hardened;
1 Timothy 4:2 AV
Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;

V. No Heaven Preachers.

2 Corinthians 4:3-4 (AV)
3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
How do you get somewhere?
Declaration; someone tells about a place.
Definition; you look at it and see if you want to go there.
Decision; you decide you are going there.
Direction; you start out with that in mind.
How do you get to Heaven?
It takes God’s Son.
It takes God’s suffering.
It takes God’s Scripture.
It takes God’s saints.
It takes God’s Spirit.

VI. No Head Preachers.

Revelation 1:3 (AV)
Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.
2 Timothy 2:15 (AV)
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
2 Timothy 4:13 (AV)
The cloke that I left at Troas with Carpus, when thou comest, bring with thee, and the books, but especially the parchments.
1 Timothy 4:13 (AV)
Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.
These never read the Bible.
These never study the Bible.
These never quote the Bible.

VII. No Heart Preachers.

Jeremiah 17:9–10 (AV)
9The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
10 I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.
A ”sermon” full of thought, but no compassion.
A “sermon” full of hate, but no help.
A “sermon“ full of feelings, but no faith.
