One of the harsh realities of life is the feeling of sometimes being mistreated by others. Whether in the workplace, on the sports field, by a family member or friend, or even the government. There are times we can feel hard done by. The question is, how do we respond – how should we respond – in these situations? If we’re honest with ourselves, either in action or heart motive, the temptation is to strike back. To get even. “Eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth!” we cry out!
In our passage this week we get to explore this issue by returning once more to the Life of David, this time in 1 Samuel 24. Here we see a man oppressed, and yet who did not strike back in return. In this way, David points us to the radical way of the Cross and the Gospel. A Gospel that has something important to teach both the oppressed and the oppressors alike.
