Male and Female

This morning we will be considering an issue I never thought we would have to put much time into at all. If you had told me when I started preaching that there would come a day when I would need to explain to the congregation that God created people as either male or female, I would have laughed at you.

Here we are.

Biological men want to compete against biological women in sports.

Biological men want to be free to use the restrooms reserved for biological women.

Biological men want to be housed in prisons for biological women.

Biological men and women want to be addressed with pronouns that contradict reason and science.

There is a movement to have ideas like this normalized. This movement has the same power and passion as the homosexual marriage movement had in the early 2000’s.

The truth is, once homosexual marriage was legalized it opened the door for some of the most outlandish ideas imaginable. Many preachers warned it would. Now we see the fruit of the rejection of God’s standards.

There are some things I need to share by way of introduction before we get into the meat of the message.

Let’s define some terms:

Sex- what a person is assigned at birth. At birth humans have distinguishing characteristics that can be easily seen. These characteristics determine if a person is male or female.

Gender- the state of being male and female.

In the past gender has been a synonym for sex. That isn’t the case in our culture anymore. Our culture teaches that gender is a social construct. It has been forced on people by the culture they live in.

It is now taught that gender is determined by how a person feels.

Until recently we have been taught that there are two genders: male and female. That’s not the case anymore. No one knows how many there are. We will discuss a few.

There is cisgender- That’s a normal person. A biological man that identifies as a male.

Transgender- one’s personal identity does not match their birth sex.

Nonbinary- they identify as more than one sex.

Agender- don’t identify with any sex.

Genderfluid- move from one sexual identity to another.

Polygender- identify with multiple genders at once.

This has led to a change in language as well. People who identify with the new genders want to be recognized with particular pronouns.

Man who identifies as a woman wants to be called she/her.

Woman who identifies as a man wants to be identified as He/Him.

Nonbinary want to be identified as They/Them or Ze/Hir

A new list of pronouns has been invented to satisfy the movement.

Teachers are being trained to be sensitive to these things.

Doctors/nurses/police officers are being trained to be sure they are not offending anyone.

The movement is well organized, well-funded and strongly supported by politicians.

There is pressure even now to have the sex of a child left blank on birth certificates. It is believed that to force a gender on a child is cruel and can lead to problems for the child.

Now listen to what I’m about to say. If the Lord doesn’t return soon it will not be long before the message I am preaching to you today will be considered hate speech. It will not be allowed on social media outlets. Pastors and church will be shamed and punished for preaching what I am preaching this morning.

Let me ask you a question: If the pastors do not speak truth to this generation who will?

Our world is muzzling the teachers.

Our world is muzzling the doctors.

Our world is muzzling the police officers.

Who is left to speak? It is the preachers. We must speak to this.

We have parents today that are allowing their children to take puberty blocking hormones so they will not develop the traits God ordained them to develop.

We have young people butchering themselves because they are believing the lie that gender is determined in the mind. Let’s look at what the Word of God says.

1. God created mankind (27).

A. God is the Architect that built us.

Hebrews 3:4 says the builder of all things is God.

Our text says God created mankind in His own image.

You may say “He created Adam and Eve, but not me!”

Psalm 139:13 says “For you formed my inward parts;

you knitted me together in my mother's womb.”

Every human is created by God. His fingerprints are all over us.

God created you the way He wanted to create you.

Your race.

Your height.

Your hair color.

Your eyes.

Your nose.

Your frame.

Everyone may not like the way you are made but that doesn’t matter. God made you for Himself. God is satisfied with how you are made.

It was God who decided to make you a male or a female.

B. God is the Authority over us.

It follows that if God created us God has authority over us. God can determine our gender because He is our Creator. He has that right.

There’s a song we used to sing that said

You are the Potter, I am the clay. Mold me and make me. This is what I pray!”

In Romans 9:20 Paul says

But who are you, O man, to answer back to God? Will what is molded say to its molder, “Why have you made me like this?” Has the potter no right over the clay?”

God has the authority to make us what He wants to make us. It’s our responsibility to accept that.

Popeye had a great outlook. He accepted who he was. He was ugly. His wife wasn’t much better looking than he was. But it was who he was.

If you are a man who seeks to be a woman you are rebelling against the authority of God in your life.

You can take hormones.

You can butcher your body.

You can change your name.

But you will always be a man to God.

When you stand before God, He will address you as a man.

When He gives you your resurrected body it will match the gender He gave you at birth.

God will not change His mind because He does not make mistakes. You are a man or a woman by God’s choice and you do not have the authority to change that.

2. God created two sexes (27-28).

A. The Scripture teaches there are only two sexes.

God created two genders and no more. He created male and female. He created them in such a way that they could produce life on the earth. He tells them in verse 28 to be fruitful and multiply.

Look at 2:21-25

I want you to see something here. The two genders are important.

Verse 23- Woman and man

Verse 24- Father and mother

Verse 25- Man and wife

This is God’s design: a woman and a man, a father and a mother, a husband, and a wife.

Nowhere in the bible will you find another gender.

Even in Genesis 6:19 we see two sexes. When Noah is gathering the animals on the ark.

Someone might argue that there are intersex individuals. That is true. That is a birth defect, and it exists because sin has brought such things into our world.

But 99.98% of people are born as a biological male or female. .02% are born with both sexual organs.

There are people who may genuinely have confusing feelings about who they are. I’m not denying that. If that is you or someone you know please hear me: You can trust the Bible more than you can trust your feelings.

B. The Savior taught there are only two sexes.

In Matthew 19 Jesus said:

Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female…

Jesus, when asked about marriage, went back to the Genesis account. He saw the Genesis account as the authority on which we speak about gender and marriage.

Did you know that Jesus would not call you by a pronoun that didn’t match your birth sex? If you were a man, He would not call you “Ma’am”. He loves you too much to do that.

It’s not Christ-like to allow people to be deceived. Jesus would lovingly correct anyone who disobeys God. The gospels are filled with Him correcting people on issues such as:

Marriage

Taxes

Prayer

Giving

Fornication

Pride

Lust

Jesus taught there were only two sexes. If you didn’t believe that He would correct you in love.

C. Science teaches there are only two sexes.

There is objective proof that only two genders exist.

There is the obvious objective proof. I’ll just call that the eye test.

There is another test you can see under a microscope.

Men have the chromosomes XY

Women have the chromosomes XX

Physiologically men and women are different.

This is why people who want to transition to another sex have to take or restrict hormones. They have to fool their bodies.

The only proof of more than two genders is in the imaginations of people. It’s subjective.

I want to show you something else. I want to show you how science is consistent with Scripture when it comes to two sexes. Look at Genesis 2:21-23.

God forms Eve from a literal piece of Adam. A piece of him, his flesh, his bone, was used to create Eve.

Why does that matter?

Males have the X & Y chromosomes.

Women only have the X Chromosome.

That means it is impossible to extract the genetic make up of a male from a female.

You can create a female from a male but you cannot create a male from a female. It’s scientifically impossible. The genetic code of a male is not present in a female.

Adam was not made from Eve. It would be genetically impossible. Eve was made from Adam. I think that’s interesting. When Genesis was written there was no idea that chromosomes even existed.

The Bible teaches God created Adam then He created Eve out of Adam. They were male and female. Science supports this 100%.

Scripture, the Savior and Science prove that only two genders exist.

3. God expects His people to share the truth.

A. We must be willing to suffer for truth.

Lots of new words have been invented to propagate the devils lies. One of those words is Transphobic.

If you deny the existence of more than two genders, you are transphobic. That means you hate transexual people.

This strategy is called Ad hominem. It is when a person attacks you personally to prove their point.

The Science is not on their side.

Reason is not on their side.

History is not on their side.

The only proof for the existence of more than two sexes is the way a person feels. They don’t have much to use in their arguments.

We can’t back down. Let them call us hateful. Let them tell their lies. Let them shout. The truth is on our side.

B. We must not adopt the worldly psychology around us.

Worldly psychology has made its way into the church.

How to deal with addictions

How to raise children

How to have a good marriage

How to deal with anxiety

All of those things are answered in Scripture. But psychology normally has an answer that is contrary to Scripture. Sadly, many churches embrace Psychology more than Scripture.

The world teaches us that:

People cannot help but be addicts.

They cannot help but be homosexual.

They cannot help but be transsexual.

The Bible teaches us that these things are sin and that we can become new creatures in Christ Jesus.

1 Cor. 6:9-10 says

Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

The gospel is the answer.

C. We must share the truth in love.

Making jokes about people, using slurs, getting angry, none of that is going to help win people to the Lord. We have family members deceived by this stuff. We need to be compassionate.

God loves every one of you. No matter what you may be dealing, He loves you. If you are dealing with a temptation to transform yourself into someone you are not, come to the Lord. He will receive you.

All He requires is repentance and faith. No matter how far you have gone, the Lord will receive you if you come to him.
