I will rejoice: He has made me glad
I will rejoice: He has made me glad
exodus 15:1-3 “Then Moses and the people of Israel sang this song to the Lord, saying, “I will sing to the Lord, for he has triumphed gloriously; the horse and his rider he has thrown into the sea. The Lord is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation; this is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will exalt him. The Lord is a man of war; the Lord is his name.”
Usually when you go to a musical, concert or the like-something happens at the end. The performer(s) looks into the sea of fans who have been delighted in the show and they take a bow. They thank the audience for for supporting.
Many times, the crowd is asking for an encore: one more song. They don’t want the night to end.
Before the pandemic, my wife and I went to some concerts (Jill Scott) . . went to see Hamilton; but nothing compared to the best show i ever witnessed in my life.
This show did just the opposite of what i mentioned earlier about the encore and taking a bow.
There is nothing Like seeing Frankie Beverly and Maze!!! I mean, I don’t believe i actually heard frankie sing that night because the crowd sang everything. All frankie had to do is hit a certain cord on the keyboard and i heard no more frankie: it was all audience.
The people never sat down, they sang every song every chorus and there was no need for an encore because they sang out the door onto Main Street.
Oh the rejoicing, the celebration of triumph!
Our text gives us the same feeling; Moses and the children of Israel are marveling at the great deliverance of God and they celebrating.
why do we rejoice in the Lord, when life is crashing in on us?
We rejoice Because God always causes us to Triumph
This was the song. This was the Israelites Purple rain. . Thriller. . . RESPECT!!! This was their Jam. It was on repeat. Miriam would later teach this to the all the women. Why was this song so prolific?
let review what God has just done.
Israel in bondage in Egypt, God uses plagues to display His power to the nations.
water to Blood . . . flies. . . all kinds of calamity. The heart of Pharoah was against God and against his people.
The last display was the passover: God strikes all of the first born of Israel and the screams that went out through the land of Egypt.
Pharoah tells the Israelites to get out of the land and worship your God. It was so bad that the Israelites were able to take whatever they wanted with them.
exodus 12:34-36 “So the people took their dough before it was leavened, their kneading bowls being bound up in their cloaks on their shoulders. The people of Israel had also done as Moses told them, for they had asked the Egyptians for silver and gold jewelry and for clothing. And the Lord had given the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they let them have what they asked. Thus they plundered the Egyptians.”
so they are leaving. . . God who has just done a marvelous thing for His people. . . they are good they did not ask for an Encore. . yet God says… Wait there’s more.
just like those commercials. . But wait there’s more.
has god done a But wait there’s more moment in your life. . . go through some examples
New Living Translation (Chapter 14)
Chapter 14Then the LORD gave these instructions to Moses: 2 “Order the Israelites to turn back and camp by Pi-hahiroth between Migdol and the sea. Camp there along the shore, across from Baal-zephon. 3 Then Pharaoh will think, ‘The Israelites are confused. They are trapped in the wilderness!’ 4 And once again I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and he will chase after you. I have planned this in order to display my glory through Pharaoh and his whole army. After this the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD!” So the Israelites camped there as they were told.
This is the backdrop of this Glorious song
The LORD- Triumphed Gloriously
