Top Priority
John 12:1-7
INTRO: PRIORITY = something considered important.
Top Priority = out of all priorities this is the most important.
PROPOSITION – Make JESUS your TOP PRIORITY.
HOW?
SETTING - v.1 – Jesus travelled to Bethany where Lazarus lived.
A banquet was held for Him.
We’re unsure of where.
By SEEKING HIS PRESENCE.
v.2-3 – Martha was serving.
ILLUS: Servers PRIORITY; don’t remain in your presence.
There are many who seek His presence, but not as a top priority.
Right thing to do (Martha); “I’m the best at it.”
Nothing else to do (Disciples); “Church is good.”
the BEST thing to do (Mary)...TOP PRIORITY was His presence.
SO-Seek His presence always as you make HIM your TOP PRIORTY.
BY SELECTING HIS PRAISE = Whatever you do that glorifies Christ.
v.3 – Mary enters His presence with something - A jar of expensive perfume.
She selected her best PRAISE.
Too many times we PRAISE to get something.
You gotta bring something to Praise.
pours it on Jesus’s feet.
POURS ALL.
Nothing held back.
SILENT PRAISE – no sound from the oil and no commotion.
Praise is
not always loud; demonstrative; in the church.
HUMBLE PRAISE - Mary wiped Jesus’ feet with her hair.
Her glory.
Slaves washed the feet.
Humility.
TRANSFORMING PRAISE - The house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.
When you make PRAISE your top priority you change the atmosphere.
From ordinary to extraordinary.
From bitter to sweet.
That’s what PRAISE will do when it’s TOP PRIORITY.
You may need to change the ATMOSPHERE of your...
STANDING IN HIS PROTECTION.
v.4, 7– Judas objected.
Judas = the world.
“It don’t take all that.”
“You don’t know like I
know.”
Judas = the “aint’s”.
Anyone who objects to the good is an “Ain’t”.
Jesus told Peter “Get behind me Satan.”
Everytime you make Jesus your TOP PRIORITY criticism will follow.
You don’t have to fight; defend yourself; prove yourself.
Because you have HIS PROTECTION.
Jesus said “Leave her alone.”
When the enemy comes in like a flood –
Leave him alone.
“No weapon formed against you shall prosper; it won’t succeed”...
“Because the Lord is faithful.
He will establish you and guard you from the evil one.”
ILLUS: Guard Dog
PRAISE BREAK
CLOSE: Top Priority.
SEEK HIS PRESENCE.
SELECT HIS PRAISE.
STAND IN HIS PROTECTION.
