Intro

Have you ever seen anything unbelievable
With you tube and social media we have all seen things that we say no way
What do we do with it?????
We pass it off as a fake
We become convinced that this really happened
We check the comments to see what we should believe
Either way we show it to our friends
We tag them
We dm them
Whatever, we want other people to see it
We want others to verify our feelings about it
We want to know if we should believe it or not
This is what we will see happens in our passage today
If you remember last week we were left with these crowds of people following Jesus everywhere
They were there to see the unbelievable
They wanted to see the show
Something happened to these people when they saw the show
Either they became convienced by his healings and teaching that Jesus is the Messiah
Or they passed it off as a fake
we will see this in todays passage as we see the crowd again
We will also see the scribes
Jesus’s family
and his followers
Mark wants us to start forming our own opinion if who this Jesus is
Read Mark 3:20-35
Mark 3:20–35 ESV
20 Then he went home, and the crowd gathered again, so that they could not even eat. 21 And when his family heard it, they went out to seize him, for they were saying, “He is out of his mind.” 22 And the scribes who came down from Jerusalem were saying, “He is possessed by Beelzebul,” and “by the prince of demons he casts out the demons.” 23 And he called them to him and said to them in parables, “How can Satan cast out Satan? 24 If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. 25 And if a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand. 26 And if Satan has risen up against himself and is divided, he cannot stand, but is coming to an end. 27 But no one can enter a strong man’s house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man. Then indeed he may plunder his house. 28 “Truly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the children of man, and whatever blasphemies they utter, 29 but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin”— 30 for they were saying, “He has an unclean spirit.” 31 And his mother and his brothers came, and standing outside they sent to him and called him. 32 And a crowd was sitting around him, and they said to him, “Your mother and your brothers are outside, seeking you.” 33 And he answered them, “Who are my mother and my brothers?” 34 And looking about at those who sat around him, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! 35 For whoever does the will of God, he is my brother and sister and mother.”

Who is this Jesus

His family thought he was out of his mind
That he had lost his senses
The Scribes say he is possesed
His followers say he is the son of God

He is out of his mind

Read Mark 3:20-21
Mark 3:20–21 ESV
20 Then he went home, and the crowd gathered again, so that they could not even eat. 21 And when his family heard it, they went out to seize him, for they were saying, “He is out of his mind.”
He went home to eat
He spent the whole day teaching and healing these crowds around him all day he is hungry they go HOME
Probably the same home with the whole in the roof
and even there they cant eat
They cant perform the basic function for life
Word of this gets back to his family in Nazareth and they set out to seize him
They go out to rescue him from himself
Surely all of this fame has gone to his head

He is possessed

Read Mark 3:22-30
Mark 3:22–30 ESV
22 And the scribes who came down from Jerusalem were saying, “He is possessed by Beelzebul,” and “by the prince of demons he casts out the demons.” 23 And he called them to him and said to them in parables, “How can Satan cast out Satan? 24 If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. 25 And if a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand. 26 And if Satan has risen up against himself and is divided, he cannot stand, but is coming to an end. 27 But no one can enter a strong man’s house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man. Then indeed he may plunder his house. 28 “Truly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the children of man, and whatever blasphemies they utter, 29 but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin”— 30 for they were saying, “He has an unclean spirit.”
Scribes pronounce him possesed
So his power comes from the devil
They dont want to admit where his power comes from
Becuase so they say he is possesed
Jesus launches into teaching
a House divided
There arguments were foolish
There disbelief is of eternal consequence though
They have the knowledge
They have seen the proof
but yet refuse to believe

He is the son of God

Read Mark 3:31-35
Mark 3:31–35 ESV
31 And his mother and his brothers came, and standing outside they sent to him and called him.
