Introduction

“Circumstances may appear to wreck our lives and God’s plans, but God is not helpless among the ruins.”—Eric Liddell
Think about storms mentioned in the Bible.
What are some of the storms mentioned?
Noah’s Ark, Disciple’s storm, Acts 27 storm.
What are characteristics of these storms?
Some are severe/short; some long; some devastating; sun doesn’t shine
What can we know for certain when pertaining to storms?
The Son is always shining. Even the sun is shining somewhere during a storm. Jesus shines even more.
Sometimes these storms can impact us in such a way that it leaves us questioning things we’ve never questioned before.
Acts 27:39–41 NLT
39 When morning dawned, they didn’t recognize the coastline, but they saw a bay with a beach and wondered if they could get to shore by running the ship aground. 40 So they cut off the anchors and left them in the sea. Then they lowered the rudders, raised the foresail, and headed toward shore. 41 But they hit a shoal and ran the ship aground too soon. The bow of the ship stuck fast, while the stern was repeatedly smashed by the force of the waves and began to break apart.
Read story of Lucas
We can still have life after the shipwreck.
Others who shipwrecked: David, Moses, Solomon
Shipwreck bring pain, hurts relationships, etc.
Thoughts about shipwreck:
Shipwreck is costly-loss on every side but God supplies us with all we need
Depleting-we swim, float, paddle, cling; but God instructs us how to survive. He strengthens us in the worst of the storm.
An Opportunity—New horizons, new people
Not the end of the journey
without God shipwreck is devastation and destruction
But with God at the helm our story is still being written!
Have you had a shipwreck experience that created a new normal for you and your family? what lessons did you learn in the process?
How can we strengthen ourselves during the good times so that we can stand firm in the storms of life?
