Jesus preaches to the Jews
Jesus preaches to the Jews
Jesus tells them that they must eat his flesh and drink His blood in order to be in Him.
knowing that He is not talking about cannibalism, but intimacy with Him, to abide (stay) in Him.
Knowing that if we stay in Him, he will stay with us.
Jesus is the breach of life, which leads to living in Him forever.
59 These things He said in the synagogue as He taught in Capernaum.
60 Therefore many of His disciples, when they heard this said, “This is a difficult statement; who can listen to it?”
61 But Jesus, conscious that His disciples grumbled at this, said to them, “Does this cause you to stumble?
62 “What then if you see the Son of Man ascending to where He was before?
63 “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.
64 “But there are some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who it was that would betray Him.
65 And He was saying, “For this reason I have said to you, that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted him from the Father.”
66 As a result of this many of His disciples withdrew and were not walking with Him anymore.
67 So Jesus said to the twelve, “You do not want to go away also, do you?”
68 Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have words of eternal life.
69 “We have believed and have come to know that You are the Holy One of God.”
70 Jesus answered them, “Did I Myself not choose you, the twelve, and yet one of you is a devil?”
71 Now He meant Judas the son of Simon Iscariot, for he, one of the twelve, was going to betray Him.
So the question is......... Are you going to leave also????
v. 59-61
v. 59-61
Jesus is teaching in the church, the synagogue.
as he is teaching these things people are grumbling, getting upset.
“This is a difficult statement” in the Greek, it is saying that this is hard, rough, cruel, or harsh, ITS MERCILESS
It can even be read as “This is offensive speech, who can heed to this??!”
but Jesus, who is aware of there grumbling ask them “Does this cause you to stumble, to give offense?”
v. 62-64
v. 62-64
62 - lets think about this. Just as Jesus came down from heaven to preach the gospel and his is received with offense, what would happen in Jesus was to ascend back to heaven. Would the offense still be there
63 - Jesus is saying here that the flesh, human nature, intelligence, emotions is completely incapable to make a true spiritual life/lifestyle. Only the Holy Spirit can do this.
64 - Jesus shows his place here again AS GOD. He knows that there are some that do not believe Him, as he has made Himself known to the people
He also sees the future. Jesus knows the one that will betray Him.
v.65
v.65
65 And He was saying, “For this reason I have said to you, that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted him from the Father.”
Jesus again is saying that because our flesh can do nothing on it s own the Father must draw us near to Him.
It is in out nature to be sinful. We are born at war with God. It is only when he are in Christ that we are no longer at war with the Father
v.66-67
v.66-67
66 As a result of this many of His disciples withdrew and were not walking with Him anymore.
67 So Jesus said to the twelve, “You do not want to go away also, do you?”
Because of Jesus’ preaching, because of his “harsh an cruel” preaching
The Bible says that many of his disciples didnt follow Him or walk with Him anymore
but then He turns to His disciples the 12
We know that (the 12) was not included in the group leaving.
These disciples were not genuine, they turned away from Jesus in His teaching, they may have followed Him for the show but not for the meat and truth of the Word
(TELL CHURCH CHOIR STORY)
Lets not forget 1 John
19 They went out from us, but they were not really of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out, so that it would be shown that they all are not of us.
v.67
v.67
Jesus turns to them and ask a question.
67 So Jesus said to the twelve, “You do not want to go away also, do you?”
Jesus ask this not because He does not know, but He ask.
The 12 maybe just as confused as the others
But Jesus ask them this question.
( are you going to leave too?)
when you are hurting.... are you going to leave?
When someone you love is going to die?
when your body breaks down?
when you weren’t placed
v.68-69
v.68-69
What does Peter say?
68 Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have words of eternal life.
69 “We have believed and have come to know that You are the Holy One of God.”
we have nothing, where else would we go?
you are life
life is in you. Where would we go? death is everywhere else.
v. 70-71
v. 70-71
70 Jesus answered them, “Did I Myself not choose you, the twelve, and yet one of you is a devil?”
71 Now He meant Judas the son of Simon Iscariot, for he, one of the twelve, was going to betray Him.
v.70 - Jesus maintain them
37 “All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will certainly not cast out.
We see here that even in tough times those who are in Him will stay.
But there is still one of them that does not believe,
The Question is, Do you?
search your heart.
‘is Jesus Lord, master of your life?
