THE HEART
JANUARY 9, 2022
2 Corinthians 9:7
Pastor Matt LaValliere
I. WHY GIVE CHEERFULLY? (2 COR. 9:6:11)
A. The condition of our hearts matters when we give because it is a matter
of God's glory, and God is very concerned about His glory. (Isaiah 48:9-11)
B. Cheerful giving acknowledges God is the owner of all we have. (1 Chronicles 29:11-14, Psalm 50:12)
C. Giving cheerfully means NOT giving reluctantly or under compulsion. (2 Corinthians 9:7)
D. Wanting to give cheerfully requires transformation and is rooted in be-
holding Christ. (2 Corinthians 3:18)
II. GIVING CHEERFULLY IS GOOD FOR OUR HEARTS
A. Our hearts should not be tied to anything fleeting. (Proverbs 23:4-5)
B. Laying up treasure in heaven protects our hearts from becoming
attached to the things of this world.
C. Our hearts want freedom and will test the world's offer to be a consumer
of goods, but we are promised that cheerful giving results in enrichment
for generosity, not consumption. (2 Corinthians 9:11)
III. GIVING CHEERFULLY GLORIFIES GOD
A. We are told that is the cheerful giver who pleases God. (2 Corinthians 9:7)
B. Paul wants us to understand that we should always view giving as it
relates to God. (2 Corinthians 9:7)
C. Scripture highlights God, the great giver. (Genesis 1, 1 Corinthians 3:21-22, Romans 8:32)
D. Christ gave cheerfully and was not reluctant or compulsed. (John 10:17)
