Prayer of Confession
Great God, though we know you are the maker of Heaven and Earth, we seek to advance by our own toil, though we know you are the provider of all good things, we grumble for our want of more, though we know you are our great provider and protector, we fret and worry about that we think we lack in our lives.
Lord, forgive us for our greatest sin against you is our lack of faith.
Forgive us for not wholly trusting in you from he time we rise to them time we lie down.
Spirit remind us day by day and moment by moment the the Father has chosen us, the Son has redeemed us, and that you keep us.
Bring us into the comfort and peace that comes with being forgiven by You and by our adoption into your family, as citizens of Your Kingdom.
In your merciful name we pray.
Amen
Assurance of Faith
But yet God gives us a great promise in His word:
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
Oh that we should believe and not but once, but for all time lean upon that belief, that faith in the one who provides all for us.
We believe and although we fall short, we must persevere to the end.
Hold tight to His Word.
Because this we know: “Therefore having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Confession of Faith
Knowing we are forgiven, Church what is it that you believe:
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth;
And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord;
who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried.
He descended into hell.
The third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven,
and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father almighty.
From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost,
the holy catholic Church*,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting.
Amen.

Prayer Request
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever.
Amen.
Gifts of the King
Today Will Be Different: Tell Story, MARSOC, why today’s sermon will be a bit different.
How today's sermon will be a Bit Different.
Discuss Paul’s Interjection.
Adding Deep Theology in the middle of the Call to Church Unity.
Today we explore why.
Christ Recieves and Gives the Gifts
Paul First makes mention that grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ’s Gift.
we each get gifted in one way or another
each gift is a measure of Christ’s grace
God determines the gift we recieve, and in what measure
later we will find out that He also determines what we are to do with it.
The gift is not yours, to be used for your purposes
rather for God’s intended purpose
Then He quotes this passage from Psalm 68
Eph 4:8 “8 Therefore it says, “When he ascended on high he led a host of captives, and he gave gifts to men.””
Psalm 68 (ESV)
To the choirmaster.
A Psalm of David.
A Song.
17 The chariots of God are twice ten thousand, thousands upon thousands; the Lord is among them; Sinai is now in the sanctuary.
18 You ascended on high, leading a host of captives in your train and receiving gifts among men, even among the rebellious, that the Lord God may dwell there.
19 Blessed be the Lord, who daily bears us up; God is our salvation.
Selah
20 Our God is a God of salvation, and to God, the Lord, belong deliverances from death.
This is s song of David rejoicing in God’s victory over His enemies, but note verse 18, the portion Paul quotes.
its not quite the same
Inthe original David points to God recieving gifts for men.
But when Paul applies it to us in the church he says that Christ is giving us gifts.
Look at the context.
What david is seeing is the conquering Christ rising to His position of victorious King and recieving gifts
who can give Jesus gifts, only the Father
and what does Christ do with the gifts?
Gives them to men
How precious then are the gifts?
They are the spoils of victory, given by the Father to the Son so that He might equip us Latter we will Look at the nature of the gifts.
Ascension
But for now we have to follow Paul’s direction, and he sidelines the discussion from here.
He feels it necesary to expound upon this imagery of Christ ascending
So Paul tells us if we are to claim He ascended, then it must have descended.
