As Jesus begins his public work in the north of Israel, we see that he primarily is a preacher, calling people to repent (to turn to him as God's king). And Matthew shows us a model for repentance as Jesus calls his first followers: Repentance is urgent, unexpected abandon to follow Jesus so you can bring others to Jesus.
