New Creation
How much time in a given day to spend thinking about heaven?
I bet you spend more time thinking about heaven than you think you do, you just don’t realize that is what you are doing.
Great expectations - The shortfall between we dream and what we get is vast. All is weighed and found wanting in our sight. Only we set our sights on the wrong horizon. The truth is, we're always a bit restless. We're supposed to be. This is not a flaw in our faith, it is faith's substance. It is a divine strategy to keep us from making permanent settlement this side of eternity. Our citizenship is in heaven. Between now and then, here and there we live as sojourners waiting for our true home. - Kevin DeYoung
What are some indications that this world is imperfect?
Why is this world so dissapointing sometimes? Why do friends let you down?
If I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world. - C.S. Lewis Mere Christianity
This is also why we chase after things and they don’t satisfy us.
It's taking larger doses now to make us feel alive While we're on the edge of something much more real Don't leave me to my emptiness
This grayscale silhouette This senseless repetition of our days This counterfeit
Give me the real thing not this watered down or in between I want the real thing not this middle ground I want the sight unseen
Addicted to this present tense These dollars make no sense We chase the wind this gold can't validate our existence
Give me the real thing not this watered down or in between I want the real thing not this middle ground I want the sight unseen

Act 4 New Creation

Jesus will Return & Reign Forever
Surprise!
Matthew 24:36 ESV
36 “But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only.
Do you Promise?
Luke 1:32–33 ESV
32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.”
Victory in Person 1 Corinthians 15:24-26, 50-56 (ESV)
1 Corinthians 15:24–26 ESV
24 Then comes the end, when he delivers the kingdom to God the Father after destroying every rule and every authority and power. 25 For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. 26 The last enemy to be destroyed is death.
1 Corinthians 15:50–56 ESV
50 I tell you this, brothers: flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 51 Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. 53 For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality. 54 When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.” 55 “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” 56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.
Man will be in Perfect Fellowship with God Forever
God with Us, Fully
Revelation 21:1–3 ESV
1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. 2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.
We are New, Forever
2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
Philippians 3:20–21 ESV
20 But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.
God will Banish Sin Forever
Hell - More than double Hockey sticks Rev 20:11-15, 21:27
Revelation 20:11–15 ESV
11 Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. 12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done. 13 And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done. 14 Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. 15 And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
Revelation 21:27 ESV
27 But nothing unclean will ever enter it, nor anyone who does what is detestable or false, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s book of life.
Picture: the end of sin
Psalm 103:12 ESV
12 as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us.
2 Peter 3:13 ESV
13 But according to his promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.
Life & Relationships will be as God Intended Forever
Revelation 21:4–6 ESV
4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” 5 And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” 6 And he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment.
Q: Is there hope for the future?
A: New Creation tells us at some point in the future, God will bring an end to all this pain, suffering and sin.
In the meantime, all of our pain, disappointment, tears and difficulty point us to the real waiting new heavens and earth where are true citizenship.
“The Christian says, 'Creatures are not born with desires unless satisfaction for those desires exists. A baby feels hunger: well, there is such a thing as food. A duckling wants to swim: well, there is such a thing as water. Men feel sexual desire: well, there is such a thing as sex. If I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world. If none of my earthly pleasures satisfy it, that does not prove that the universe is a fraud. Probably earthly pleasures were never meant to satisfy it, but only to arouse it, to suggest the real thing. If that is so, I must take care, on the one hand, never to despise, or to be unthankful for, these earthly blessings, and on the other, never to mistake them for the something else of which they are only a kind of copy, or echo, or mirage. I must keep alive in myself the desire for my true country, which I shall not find till after death; I must never let it get snowed under or turned aside; I must make it the main object of life to press on to that country and to help others to do the same.” Lewis - Mere Christianity
Philippians 3:20–21 ESV
20 But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.
Remember: There will be a day...
But I hold on to this hope And the promise that He brings That there will be a place with no more suffering
There will be a day with no more tears No more pain and no more fears There will be a day When the burdens of this place Will be no more We'll see Jesus face to face But until that day We'll hold on to you always
I can't wait until that day Where the very one I've lived for always Will wipe away the sorrow that I've faced To touch the scars that rescued me From a life of shame and misery Oh, this is why, this is why I sing
If you could make one thing completely disappear from your life what would it be?
If you could make one thing disappear from the world what would it be?
What are some things that prove that this world is imperfect?
How is God going to make all of that right again?
What are you looking most forward to about the New Heavens & Earth?
Philippians 3:20–21 ESV
20 But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.
If our citizenship is in heaven - What is it to be a good citizen?
What does it look like a wait for a Savior from there?
What are the things that we want in our hearts that will only be fully satisfied in heaven?
